New short 1P ACS bow, lefty photo added
« on: April 13, 2009, 05:05:00 PM »
Well, we've finally gotten the tooling finished and have built a few of the 56"-58" 1P bows, and boy are they nice!  Finding a short bow that stores energy like a longer bow is the trick.  This one does.

I just tested a 58" bow a few days ago and it only stored 1% less energy at a 28" draw as our longest (64"-66" 3P and 1P) bows.  Dynamic efficiencies were equivalent, so the short 1P offers within a nat's whisker as much performance as our longer bows.  I couldn't be much happier!

The bow I tested wasn't finished so I didn't take any photos.  Just got off the phone with Larry and he will have a couple ready for photos in a day or two.

If anyone has been thinking about a nice, short 1P bow I can highly recommend this one.

I for one would be very interested.  I hope I get an opportunity to shoot one some time.

Congratulations John!  That sounds like a winner!  Hope that you have a lefty or two at Compton to try!

Thanks Chris.  I'll see if we can get one (a lefty) put together for you to shoot.  Say hello to Brier for me!

John,
Are there any plans to chop these 1 piece bows in half?  If so what lock-up configuration do you expect to use?

Can your one piece longbows be custom ordered now?

Mike, right now we don't have any specific plans to chop them in half.  I'd have to say that there are ZERO 2P-takedown mechanisms or schemes that are perfect in my own personal opinion.  Larry and I have talked a lot about the need to come up with a better way to turn a 1P into a 2P, but that's on the back burner for now.  One thing I know for sure - we don't want to offer a 2P takedown system that we're not satisfied with.

Hank, yes, the 64"-66" and the 56"-58" 1P bows can be custom ordered now.

John, I'd sure agree with that 2P problem.  After owning 4 different kinds, my advise would be to make the rise out of phenolic, cut the limbs off on an angle and bolt 'em back on for a 3 piece.  I think Stotler used to do that.  Never owned that, but I'd never buy another 2 piece system that's in existance now.

The one thing that I can bank on is that the boys at A & H will engage brain prior to making any quick decisions, particularly on the two piece issue.  And I know whatever you decide you'll do right for the Traditional Archery community.

Personally I've had several different types of 2 piece systems, i.e. the Talon Takedown, the Bow-Bolt and the BW Locket Socket.  Locket Socket is by far the best in my opinion.  Seams to be the simplest, strongest, no loose parts to misplace on the trail.  But I can't speak toward production difficulty nor patton rights.

This 1 piece concept and the further evolution into the 2 piece realm is the natural maturation of the company's product line.  Exciting times John...I'm happy for you and Larry.

Mike, thanks for the kind words.  I agree that the sleeve/socket system is by far the simplest and probably the most fool proof.  The grip shape is somewhat limited by that option, however.  I don't know if it will work well on our more reflexed (forward grip) 1P bows like the shortest one, however.  Anyway, it's a good question to ponder.

John,

I believe that's the bow we shot when we visited a few weeks back.  It was impressive, smooth on the draw and very fast.  It's a keeper for sure.

Great I said I was not going to order anymore bows and now a 56" one piece ACS you got to be kidding me. I guess one more bow isn't going to hurt.

John,

What the availability of the Bow? And at what lenght would i need for a 29.5 to 30" draw? Doe the grip come in Low, Med, and High?
Everything I have and have become is due to the Lord and his great mercy.
