Really nice riser wood! I bet some banded water snake skins may looK good over black glass if you ever decide to cover the black.

As many have said, a truly beautiful piece of wood for the riser section. I do believe the black on the limbs will help the riser stand out and "pop"!

Ooooooh Koa, oh I gots "chicken skin" as the Hawaiians say just looking at that insanely beautiful piece of wood. And it's just as surley to work with as it is beautiful to look at... more twists and turns than a Hawaiian creek! But once you tame it, oh does it make for the most beautiful art you'll ever see. I saw a Koa canoe with outrigger once that brought tears to my eyes, and a koa ukulele that I still covet to this day. The father-in-law can leave us nothing when he shuffles off this mortal coil, but that ukulele is MINE!! May he live a long and healthy life though.

I know what you mean about the wind in the trees and not taunting them....

Here's a thought....will there be enough of that beautiful koa block left to have a fellow trad gang member put a handle on a nice damascus blade? Just an idea so as not to see any of that wood go unappreciated.

I asked for some koa scraps, but that may translate to residual dust on the riser, depending on Jim's whims. He just sent me a pic of the laid-up bow on his bench, oboyoboyoboy!

Koa is a stand alone wood,it can make the most normal thing look out of this world.

Killy beautiful taste as usual.

Juan I came back from Kauai with a Kanaka uke that's got some insane figured Koa in it.

Wow! I got a bow due from Jim around the end of the year. I was thinking of Bacote, but you may have just changed my mind. Can't wait to see the finished pics.

Jim says the wood is very lightweight, so if you like as much mass weight as you can stuff into a longbow riser, this isn't the tree. I figure if I have problems..uh, correct that...MORE problems shooting a wispy bow, I can always get some mercury tubes and install them in the butt of the grip.
