Min Stand count D97
« on: April 17, 2009, 12:44:00 AM »
Well, I made a flemish twist with D97 tonight.  Actually 3 of em to get the length right.  But I did it with 10strands of D97 and padded the loops with 6 pieces of B50.  But I am kinda concerned, its the smallest diameter string I ever seen. It bit into my hand with .022 brownell braided serving so I double served overtop the .022 with .018 #62 braid.  This was more comfortable and good knock fit.

Anyone else shoot 10 strands of D97 with a 60lb recurve?

No, but I have a 6 strand D97 on my 53# Black Widow recurve and no problems at all once it stopped creeping. I tested D97 single strand for break weight and it broke atabout 50# (3 different tests) so I figured 6 strands should be good and it's holding up real well. ...Lloyd

I'm shooting 6 on a 50 lb bow and 8 on a 56 lb. I tested one of my strands and couldn't break it up to about 80 lbs so i quit trying. Didn't try my other colors but even at the 50 lbs they should be safe.

Well, that makes me feel better at 10.  Did it increase performance?

I'm shooting 8 on a 60 pounder. It's fine. No problems.

8 strand with mid 50# bows working well, slight gain in performance but more importantly a quieter bow. I also tried 6 strand and it also worked fine on mid 50# but 8 is a little safer and just as quiet to my ear.
shoot straight shoot often

Quick question- When you guys are talking 8 strands, do you mean you put 8 strands on your jig then when doubled and twisted together are actually 16 strand or are you using 4 strands and when double make 8? I don' shoot flemish strings I use endless loop.

I take it as 4 strands each bundle, two bundle for total of 8 strands.

Thanks for all that replied.

A 12 strand is strong enough for up to a 100# bow,I shoot a padded loop 12 strand D97 on my bows from 50# to my 83# DQ longhunter. It is more then I need for my 50# but making all my strings the same gives me the same nock fit for all my bows.I use 12 strands with .024 Halo sering gives me about .108-110 diameter which fits good with Easton 3D Super nocks and G-nocks large groove .098 throat.
