P&Y Convention in Denver
« on: April 22, 2009, 10:11:00 PM »
I just got home from helping set up the convention/banquet, spent all day uncrating and setting up displays for world class mounts, all I can say is if you can possibly make it there, you should!!

We'll be there for dinner on Saturday on our way to Idaho to hunt bears
Greg

Long as I can pull this bow
Long as I can hike the hills and walk among the trees
I keep on trying
My goals are high but I don't care
The fun is in the getting there, it justifies the end
So try, try again

I got into Denver last night and will be out there this afternoon.  This is my first P&Y convention and I am looking forward to it.  If any of you guys are going make sure and stop by the Colorado Traditional Archer's Society (CTAS) booth and say hey.

Stop by and say hello to my bud R.L. Foster (TCO Guide on here) at the Trophy Class Outfitters booth.  Everybody needs to see a whitetail in the 270's.  Tell him what a nice looking booth he has and that the guy that designed it must have been a genius.    :D

The highlight of the convention for me was the Little Delta cabin Scott George (Hornhunter on here)built in honor of Glen St Charles, who was in attendence. What a cool display & a work of art. It will be going to the P&Y museum in Minisota for all to enjoy.

It was a great tribute to a pioneer in archery & a piece of history for bowhunters. I bet some who attended never heard of Glen, but now know the history of a legend. Cool beans in my book, Scott done good.

The cabin will end up at the Archery Hall of Fame, the P&Y Museum already has a similar display. This display may be used in Rochester for the 50th anniversary but if so it will be forwarded to Hall of Fame.

I had a great time at P & Y in Denver this past weekend. Amoung many highlights, I spoke with Fred at the Compton's booth. Fred is an icon in our sport and I am proud to have been in his presence many times in the past 2 years and enjoyed conversation with him. The shooting clinic at BW, the longbow shoot in Michigan, the Michigan traditonal show in Jan. 2008, Compton's at Beirren Springs, to name a few. In Denver, I bought a traditional archives book and it is fantastic. Get a copy if you don't have one and just read the neat stories form our traditional commrades. I would hope any BW shooters out there who are not members of P & Y and Compton's will consider joining us. Our sport needs people who are committed long term to the preservation of hunting as the anti's fight to stop hunting will have an effect on more than just hunters. It affects our manufacturers like BW, our arrow components/shafts manufactures, you name it, it is potentially going to be affected if we don't get more folks to help pull the wagon for our archery and bowhunting future. Fred makes us all proud with his accomplishments in the field and out of the field. And so my question, Fred, can you see a day in the future coming when we could have a convention like we had in Denver, a first class event with just traditional guys?- complete with the outitters, the wildlife display, the banquets, the auctions, the seminars, not to mention that replica of Fred and Glen's Little Delta log cabin scene - ABSOLUTLEY MAGNIFICINT! It was so cool to be among bowhunters all weekend but perosnally for me, the ultimate would be a weekend of just us traditional guys. Please let me know Fred if you have a similiar dream, what can I do to join you in making this vision come to pass? I am ready to serve, sir.

Sorry to be so late responding.  I drove to P&Y in Denver and there was an NABC (North  American Bowhunting Conference) following P&Y, and then we wandered a bit on the way back to Mich.Just arrived back home.  Thanks for the kind words. The Compton Archive book is great, isn't it?  we sold quite a few there and took several new memberships.  P&Y still has a lot of old time traditionalists in their membership.  We (Compton) continue to have conversation about having a banquet, but have shied away from it because of the cost of attending one...and because there are so many of them out there right now...P&Y,PBS,all the verious states, ect.  P&Y now has about 7000 members and I observed in the last 2 years they had over 5000 whitetail entries alone! They are lots, lots bigger than we are, obviously.  It was quite a show...Our Rendezvous allows whole families to attend an event, and we think that is good for us and traditional bowhunting, and the organization has done well with it. Over 7000 attendees in each of the last two years. We'll keep looking at it.  We're also looking at having another Rendezvous type event in either the west or the southeast, but that's no small task either.  We're growing.  We have about 1300 members worldwide.  We love to have all you traditionalist join us.GFA
