I love my Martin Hatfield takedown. It's my go-to bow. My buddy shoots a Martin Mamba very well.
I've owned several Martins and have yet to find a bad one.

I am left, and shoot an x-200. I love it . Shoots great for me, and preforms well. It took me awhile to choose one and the x-200 was it. I am very happy with my choice.   :)

If I remember correctly, the X150 and the X200 are the same bow, but the X150 is Dacron Only, the X200 is FF compatible.

Martin makes a good bow, but to be honest I think there are better bows availible for the money from many of our sponsers here on the Tradgang.

The X-150 is advertised as having "European Craftsmanship" or some such. The X-200 is supposed to be made at the Howatt Plant. The X-200 has increased in price a lot recently, for a bit more you can get a Mamba.

Martin makes a great bow, but so do many others. Take a look in the classifieds. You are likely to find a number of quality bows that will meet or exceed your needs.

I have had some Martin hunters, super diablos, savannah, and have liked all of them. I have talked to some archers who feel the Martin is the best production bow for the money. That was true ten years ago but I am not sure now with all the bows being made. Martin and Bear bows are all good, like chevys and fords used to be.

For the price of an X-200 you could have Maddog or HolmMade make you a custom to your specs. The Martins are solid bows, but they are getting pricey.

I have a Martin Hunter,a Rebal, and 2 Savannahs. I love them all, wouldn't trade any of them.I also have some old Pearsons. There are lots of good bows out there, try some and see what you like best and fits "you". Also look around and be patient, I got the last Savannah at Gander Mtn. for $300 on sale after X-mas?

As stated Martins are solid quality production bows.  Had and used a Hunter for years and years, finally sold it after I aquired my second Blacktail. If you like the Martin buy it. There are other good bows in the same price range made by custom bowyers that are as good or better.

martin hunter or dreamcatcher...amongst the best out there...
i was told by a sales person, when purchasing an out-of-date newpaper that it was out-of-date...

i told her "i've been told i'm out-of-date, too"...

does that mean i'm up-to-date?

You never figure out which "one".  You just keep trying them, one or two or three at the time.  That's part of the fun.  :D

I will give you a word of caution on the X200. On the X200 if its the plywood looking one its FF compatable [I believe that its 2008 models and newer]. If its the one that looks like wood or maple its not FF compatable [ prior to 2008]. Also, have you shot the Bear Grizzly for comparison and the  Grizzlys are not ff compatable?

If you dont mind a metal riser I see Martin has a new take down recurve called the Jaguar for $140. I thought it was a real reasonable price.

If you want a longbow, go to one of the Tradgang sponsers, Mohawk longbows. Much cheaper than Martin, better made, and you can order it custom made and have it in about 6-7 weeks.

I'm new Trad hunter as well.  I picked up a very lightly used Martin Hunter here from a fellow trad ganger.  I love that bow. You might want to get a used bow to have something to practice and hunt with.  It will give you some time to try other bows like those customs.

A good used bow, be it a Martin, a Bear or any other respected brand, can be had for a very nice price.
