I am reaching out to some of my Traditional Archery friends because I might need a favor from somebody.

As some of you already know, I had shoulder surgery the first week of March and I am slowly on the mend, but I haven't healed up as fast as I had hoped.

I was going along pretty good with my therapy and I ended up getting a blood clot and a few other complications and to make a long story short, I am about only half as far along as I thought I would be at this point. Too much medicine and stinking blood thinners have slowed me down a bit.

Yesterday I was using a 1 and 2 pound dumbell in my therapy session, lol.

Here is the favor I might, let me repeat "might" need. I am finally getting the fire back in my belly to shoot and eventually hunt. I don't have the extra money to buy a new quality bow right now and I doubt that I will be able to shoot one of my hunting bows this fall. I have a 45# Bear Super Kodiak but it is a dog and the rest is too high and the throat is huge and I don't want to fight this thing. I know a lot of bowhunters across the country and over the years I have helped a lot of them in various ways. I am asking one of my buddies out there if it would be possible for someone to loan me a bow in the 40-45 pound range (at my draw) I pull an honest 29 1/2 inches.

I have several bows in my house for me and my family. All of my personal bows are from the low 50's to around 70#'s. My bows for Leslie and the girls are too light and or too short for me to hunt with. Right now I can barely pull a 15# target bow. I might be able to pull a 55# bow by late summer or early fall, but that will be a long way off.

I am just trying to line up a bow to borrow, rent, lease from one of my friends for the spring and summer. I am not trying to mooch a bow and get somebody to give me a bow. Anybody that knows me knows that is not my style. I don't want to buy a multi hundred dollar bow that I will only use for a few months or a season. I could buy a lighter bow and then put it up for Ian when he is big enough, but he is only 4 and I don't have a lot of extra money laying around to justify buying an expensive bow. I have been away from work for 2 months. I am getting paid my normal salary, just no overtime. Overtime is my play toy money. I have never taken money from our family income to buy toys.

To make a long rant a little shorter-If you are a friend or acquaintance of mine and you trust that I would take care of a piece of your hunting equipment and you would be willing to loan me a bow for a couple of months-Maybe a few more if I don't get up to a 50# bow by October, I would appreciate you PMing me or sending me an e-mail and let me know what you have available. I would really appreciate it.

Now, let me clarify a couple other things. Although I have been off work for 2 months, I have been getting my full salary, I am not destitute and I have all of my bills paid up, which is a blessing these days. I do not want anybody going through any extra trouble and I am not trying to scam a new bow. There are a lot of people out there that are deserving of a free bow, I am not one of them. I just need a good shooting, low weight, right hand loaner bow that will draw smoothly to 29 1/2 inches.

I have shot almost every brand of bow made and I know what I can shoot well and what I can't shoot well. If you have a bow available and are willing to let me use it, I would be very grateful.

I will pay all shipping and insurance, I will build a new string for it and I will even pay a reasonable fee for the use of it. I will even loan you a bow of mine if you want a little heavier bow to try.

I hope I am not sounding like a whiner or a mooch. I just thought this might be a good place to find a little help.

I could kick myself. I have sold or given away a dozen bows over the years that would be perfect for me right now, lol.

Thank you in advance, P.J.

I know a guy that has an older Bear takedown that is 40# or so. He got it for free a couple of years ago and hasn't used it. I'll ask him when I see him Sunday.

P. J.,

I have a terrific 62" Palmer TD that is 42#@29".  The limbs are double carbon, and I'm confindent it will handle another 1/2" without a bit of complaint.  The grip is medium/high, and it is a fine shooting bow.

It is yours for the asking for as long as you might care to have it.  I'll gladly ship it to you on Monday... on my nickle!     ;)

I think you could have a lot of fun experimenting with it while you rehab.  Say the word and it is on the way!!!

Let me know, my friend!!!!!!!!!

I'll take all the "dog" 45# Super Kodiaks you can muster, partner.  PM me and I'll give you an address and even pay the shipping.
  ;)
Actually, you probably don't want a 40# bow.....you want to borrow a 30# bow to work back into shooting condition.  EASE into the shooting process.

Let me know what you need to have to take that Super Kodiak off your hands.

I sure wish I had a lighter weight bow for you, but I'm sure someone will.  Something in the 30# range would probably be great for you.  I just don't have anything even close.

When you do get a bow, just take it easy and don't rush the recovery process.  I haven't been through it myself, but from what I have read the worst thing you can do is rush the healing and end up hurting yourself even worse.  Follow the instructions of your PT to the letter and you will eventually be right back where you want to be.

Good luck!

George, you are a funny guy!!!My old Super Kodiak killed my first few deer and it was my first "real" bow. As super Kodiak's go, it is less than a performer. It has a big, open throat and it stacks after about 27.5 inches, but It will be around the house for a few more decades, lol.

Hawkeye and Fletcher each have a bow that will work for me. I have contacted both men and we will be making plans on getting me back shooting. You gotta love those Illinois guys!!

I have several bows from the teens to the mid 20's for my wife, kids and boy scouts and 4 H. Now I will have access to a bow in the mid 30's and a bow in the mid 40's. After i work through these bows, I should be able to shoot my turkey bow-a 52# Thunder Stick MOAB!! I might decide I really like Rick and Daryl's bows--we might have to work out a trade  ;)

I guess I am going to have to build some girly arrows to shoot with this summer  ;)

AS for everybody else that contacted me or participated in this thread, thank you very much and even if I did not take you up on your generosity, it doesn't mean that I don't appreciate it.

As always, if there is anything I can ever do for you guys, if I can help,I will--

Thank you very much, P.J.

PJ,

You know we're here to help if we can. Unfortunatly I think I maybe in the same boat shortly :-(

I had surgery on my right shoulder 2 years ago from falling on black ice at work. Now my left shoulder is killing me!!! I think it's from over compensating for the other shoulder. I have an appointment with Indy ortho Monday and I'm pretty sure a mri is in my future.

 Terry,
How ya doing? Tony made a very nice bow. I'm not sure how he laser engraved them, but they are shooters. Hope everything is going well for you and you're family, way out yonder ;-)
