Weights for Trad Only shafts
«
on:

Just wondering if the gold tip 20 and 50 grain weights will work for point loading the Trad Only shafts. The brass ones I pulled out of my CX heritage shafts seem too loose in the Easton shafts. I have a bunch of the gold tip weights that screw into the insert but I was curious if they need to fit flush with the shaft wall or if it makes a difference.

Jake,
Can't answer your question about inserts for Trad Only shafts as I have never seen them. If the inserts are a loose fit though, your points or broadheads may not center on the axis of the shaft - not good.
If you are asking about the add on weights fitting the shaft wall snugly, I don't think that would be important. They will center up on the insert.
Hopefully, someone will come along with experience with the Trad Only shafts to answer your question or you could call 3R.

Thats a good point Ray. I see how they will be centered. I guess my question stems from the Niagra shoot this past weekend. About halfway through the course I could hear a buzz in my arrows. I have two 50 grain weights behind a full thread insert. I figured they were coming loose. Now I haven't done it yet but I was going to put them all apart and epoxy the weights and insert together them hot melt the whole works back in.

The answer is no.
Gold Tips and Bemans ICS' (which is what "Trad Only" shafts are) are ever so slightly different in their inner diameter, with the Gold Tips being just a slight bit larger. That's why the lip of Beman inserts is parallel and Gold Tips are slightly tapered. Beman inserts aren't threaded for screw-on weights like Gold Tips are, and using a Gold Tip insert in a Beman ICS exposes the lip of the shafts to damage.
I have a lot of Gold Tip components and have repeatedly tried them in Beman ICS shafts. I wouldn't recommend it.

Man Jason you are on the ball. Any questions I've had you've been quick to respond. I really appreciate your insight. But the inserts supplied with the Trad Only shafts are fully threaded and those gold tip weights screw right in. I was just worried about any discrpancies between the inside diameter of the 400 shafts and the OD of the gold tip weights. I thought maybe they had to slip tightly inside vs being a little loose.

The Gold Tip weights are designed to fit snug inside GT shafts. As such, they're a little too big for the Beman ICS'.

I have a dozen Trad only 500's with the 50gr brass inserts installed and the inserts fit just fine. When I installed them they went in nice and snug with JB Weld.

kentuckytj... i'm sorry, your mistaken, they are available in 50 and 100grn weights.
if you pull up the 5/16"s size then you can select the 50 or 100grn weight.

Smallwood, he was asking about the Traditional only shafts. If you will put the first drop on Trad only you will notice there is only a 100 grain option available.
Now I have no idea if the 5/16" size will fit the trad only shafts but I'm assuming not since they have a trad only selection.

The Trad/Trad lite selection is for Arrow Dynamics Traditional and Traditional Lites. Traditional Only carbons take the 5/16" diameter brass inserts, which are in 50gr and 100gr.

But that's what confuses me. I pulled the 100 grain brass inserts out of my heritage shafts and tried them. The promblem was they went into the Trad Only shafts way easier, with very little "snugness" than compared to the heritage shafts. That's why I gathered they were too small to use in the Trad Only's.
