Thank you note makes me smile
« on: May 08, 2009, 07:18:00 AM »
I recently gave a nice python backed osage self bow to a friend as a present and guide tip. He is the game manager / guide of a large farm holding and a serious wheel bow hunter. Also, he is a swell fellow. I honestly thought this bow would end up hung on his den wall as decoration.

Hi Shaun,
I finally got out and shot the beautiful Python Bow aka Constrictor.  My first two shots, right handed, felt uncomfortable
and left a nice welt on my left forearm.  I switched to lefty and the fun started immediately.  I couldn't believe how fun it was and
I noticed improvement with almost every shot.  After 50 arrows I was consistently hitting the target most of the time. I also had a
beauty of a welt on my right forearm, though putting on a light jacket took care of that  problem quite well.  I will be getting an arm guard soon.
When I just concentrated on a spot from a distance of 10 to 15 yards, drew back and released, I was hitting the spot almost half of the time.  Most importantly
I was having a blast and now I can't wait to get some more time to play.  I think it's addictive!
Thank you so much for the opportunity and the new challenge of trying traditional archery.

I vow to take a deer as soon as I feel I can ethically make the shot. I think this is going to be a great adventure for me, thanks to you.

Wat to go Shaun. Hope that fellow realizes what a prize he has in one of your selfbows. Give him a few months and he'll be converted.

When in Texas last week, one of my compound buddies had the opportunity to try a few longbows. Then Mark Horne showed up in camp and the deal was sealed. My buddy called me yesterday and has been flingin arras for couple hours a day and lovin it. He is headed out to Manitoba this week for two weeks of bear huntin and he says he's leavin his wheely bow at home!

Very very cool Shaun!

Dave, Glad to know Shelton has been infected. Even better to know he's found the courage to go it without the wheels    . Now that is cool! Call me! I'm at home this morning. CK

I treasure a thank you note as well. Years ago a young man called me to see if I would sell him a string for his bow. I could tell he was pretty young and asked his age, either 10 or 12, I don't remember exactly. I told him I was running a special on bow strings for youngsters and he was just the right age to get one for free.

I mailed him a string, never expecting to hear from him again. A few days later I got this wonderful thank you note in the mail.

I keep it above my work bench and it warms my heart every time I notice it because it reminds that in spite of all the bad things you hear about kids now days there are still some out there who were raised right.

Thanks all. I love to see that light go on when someone catches trad fever.

Good idea Eric. I think I'll post this one over the bench too.

I sent my friend the link to Mike's Archery Leathers (MAL). No finer arm guard around and there is a sale going on arm guards... support our sponsors.

As I said  once before Bwana was really humbled not only by the gift of the  bow but especially your thoughtfullness. I  willkeep asking him how its going ,as I talk to him quite frequently.

Thanks again for sharing that camp with me and for your generousity to a mutual friend.
