Flemish string jigs?
« on: May 18, 2009, 02:17:00 PM »
Hey guys, does anyone have a diagram or plans for a flemish string jig that measures strings by sting length not bow length. Most that I have seen on the internet are by bow length. Any help would be appreciated...
Thanks, Al

I never use a jig. Just figure out what length string you need, and add 16" to that measurement. Then drive two nails into the wall at that distance and wind the string material around them  until you get the number of strands you want, and start twisting. Nothing to it, really.

The 16" allows for the loops and twists of the string, and is quite accurate.

I did a gooogle search for the jig and found a perfect set up you can make in about 30 minutes with some finish nails and a 1 X 4. I've used it for years and it works fine.

Scattershot, I would like to try your method... I only have one question. When using the Board method your strand ends are staggered which is probably supposed to help in having a nice clean end to your loops…. Do you keep yours even? If yes does that finish off OK w/no lumps??

OK I know that is two questions… Sorry, LOL

Thanks in advance!

Bill

HELLO Dano! I won’t be at Cloverdale this year. If you go have fun.
