need a book idea
« on: May 30, 2009, 11:26:00 AM »
I have only ever read military books(and the bible). I want to expand my library. I am looking for a book about traditional bow hunting, but not instructional. I want to read true stories of adventure.

Give me a list to start with

thanks

Check out Mike Mitten's "One with the Wilderness" or Bryce Lambley's "My Neck of the Woods" are also good reads.

I've read all those books above. They're the best! I'd add "Witchery of Archery" (Thompson) & Hunting with the Bow & Arrow" by Saxton Pope.
I'm looking for Howard Hill's book, "Hunting the Hard Way".

They do? Can't see that on their website  :(
The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.

Also look at Hunt with Fred Bear by Dick Lattimer.

Mike Mittens "One with the Wilderness"

Bryce Lambly "My Neck of the Woods" (My Current Read)

Mark Siedschlag "Autumn Leaves A Bowhunters Life"

Jay Massey "Bowhunting Alaska's Wild Rivers" and "A Thousand Campfires"

Anything by E.Donnell Thomas Jr., Rodger Rothaar and Gene Wensel

There are hundreds more but that should be a good start.
We do not rise to the occasion.  We fall to our level of training.

I don't think I saw what may be the most important one of them all "Hunting with the Bow and Arrow" by Saxton Pope!

If you enjoy Thompson and "Witchery of Archery" make sure and get a copy of "Toxophylius in Arcadia".
