Everybody in American, and I mean everyone, needs to learn about D Day. My god, the sacrifices those men and boys made. God bless their souls.

My father-in-law fought in WWII and was there for D-Day.  He still hangs his own treestands and grabs his bow every fall to hunt.  You would never guess his age within 20 yrs. if you met him.  I'm proud he's my father-in-law.

My uncle was a Navy EOD guy on the beach for something like 8 hours and still lives to this day...My other uncle completed his 24 bombing missions over Europe, he lives right down the road.

Amazing generation!!

My dad was a top turret gunner in a B-17.  He's 85 years old and barely slowing down.
Any time I think I have it rough I think of what he went through in his life, during the great depression the war etc and I have to laugh at my "problems."

I know a man who was a paratrooper.  He jumped into Normandy during the pre-dawn invasion on D-Day.  He fought all the way through the European theater, saw a lot of action and was wounded 5 times.

He's still alive today and made his final parachute jump just a few years ago -- just because he wanted to experience it one more time!

I have the utmost respect for him and those of his generation that sacrificed so much for the freedoms we enjoy!

You know, you can watch movies like "The longest day" and "Saving private Ryan", and you still can't imagine the task them boys performed. God Bless em for their strength and bravery and ultimate sacrifice.

Since before I went in to the Army I have always looked up to those that fought for Our freedom. To the ones that never came home in all the wars. My Heart goes out to them & to the ones that will give their lives so others will be free.

It is a good thing to see some people still remember the day - it used to be a big event and now hardly is the day mentioned.

That was an outstanding bunch of heroes supported by the good folks back home.  People were willing to sacrifice and weren't afraid to correctly identify the enemy.

Times certainly have changed.

My father-in-law was a surgeon in Patton's Mash unit.  I think they hit the beaches on Day 3.  Then followed Patton everywhere he went...including Hitler's Eagle Nest and opening up several concentration camps.  He passed away 1 1/2 years ago.  The family was luck enough to hear him talk about the war at an Army/Navy night.  He had 15 minutes time, so a few days before he spent the entire evening going over war stories about the mash unit.  Thankfully I sat back and filmed the entire evening.  Oh the history that would have been lost for our family...Doc

There simply are no words that could possibly do justice to the scope of sacrifice we know as D Day.  The number of patriots who died in an effort to liberate humanity from the treachery of their time (and our future) is staggering.  

I can imagine neither their fear nor their courage, their desperation nor their determination, their uncertainty nor their confidence.  They experienced life in the extraordinary...extraordinary circumstances, extraordinary emotions, extraordinary faith that the greater good of humanity was more important than individual safety and comfort.

I am both humbled and inspired by the images of D-Day...grateful beyond measure for what these young people accomplished in both life and death...and hopeful that our Nation and this world will never forget.

I lost my dad last Oct. 3,2008 he was with the 5th Inf. also attached to Pattons 3ed Army and had a Purple Heart with 3 clusters and 2 Bronze Stars.  He step on a mine during the Battle of the
Bulge which sent him home.  He never talked about it much until the WWII 50th anivesary and then he started talking about thing that happen.  
He wanted to go to the D Day Museum in New Orleans so we got up early one morning and drove over and spent the day.  Man I would give a million dollers to have that day with him again.
My son did an interview with him on DVD and I am so happy I have that interview.

They went off to war, won it, and came home to build the greatest nation on earth.
