Getting gunshy!
« on: June 04, 2009, 08:06:00 PM »
Well, that's two, 2-piece longbows bows in 3 weeks I've torn in half!

I think I've just sub-conciously dropped my drawlength from 30" to about 24"!  :D

I'm not going to mention names or brands, because I don't want anyone to think I'm badmouthing the bowyers (before anyone asks!)

My head & ribs are still ringing a LOT & they're both telling me that I'm done with sub-60" bows. As much as I love the shorter 54-58" longbows, my head can't take much more pounding & I'm going to have to admit defeat.

Anybody wanna buy 4 atlatls?

ouch. I had a nock just slip off once and it shook me up. Only had one bow blow and that was on a tiller tree.
Better get about a 70 incher to use until the nerves settle    :bigsmyl:
I'm drawing 30 too and don't think I'll try the short ones.
glad it sounds like you aren't too hurt.

I had a three piece tear a limb bolt out at full draw about a month ago. It wakes you up quick. Glad you're ok Rob.

Did they come apart at the takedown junction?  Failure of the mechanism or something else?  Glad you're OK and don't blame you for wanting to shoot something a little more substantial for a bit.

Glad you weren't hurt Rob, but very few 54-58-inch longbows (longbows?) can handle a 30-inch draw.  Regardless of who makes them, takedown or not, with the possible exception of those with extreme deflex, they're going to break, sooner rather than later, particularly in heavier weights.   :)

Oh man!! You already know what I've heard. This closes the subject for me.

Skyler, I need my vice grips and screwdriver back. How did Rob's bow shoot for you, anyway?

Rob-
I have a very safe 64" longbow that I can trade you (if you put in the right amount of cash that is) for that disaster in waiting unsafe at any speed Morrison. It's hard to shoot in a splint and with an eye patch.

You should let me know soon before I change my mind and make you put in even more cash.

Rob, what type of conection? I also have a 30" draw and have been shooting my 60" two piece longbow a ton lately. Talked to the bowyer about it awhile back and he told me I was pushing it at my draw length but I should be OK with the weight I'm shooting, just under 50@30. Had an old Martin go one me several years ago, the only bow I ever had break on me, and it took awhile for the "knob" to go down on my forehead. Glad you're alright.

Dang Rob, glad you're alright. On the bright side, if the knot stays on your head you can just pierce it and look even cooler!    :p

No matter what anyone says, I don't think any 2pc under 60-62" will survive a 30+" draw for long. Especially since I know this guy who's blown up 2 in the last three weeks.

There just aint enough wood in the handles on those bows to support that type of connection, at that weight, that bow length, and that draw.

Rob, Have you ever considered getting your ardms shortened?   :clapper:

Seriously, glad you didn'y get hurt. I'm only drawing 28" and those short bows always bothered me.
