Opinions on Bear Supermag 48
« on: March 25, 2007, 04:19:00 PM »
I recently found a Bear Supermag 48 for sale, and the price is definitely right.  It's one of the newer models, only a couple of years old.  I'm 5'5" and pretty much all my bows are 62" or more, and sometimes manuverability becomes a problem because of my height.  At 48", the Bear should cure the manuverabilty probs, but I've read mixed reviews of the Supermag 48 - some people like em, some people hate em - but I've never seen anyone get into specifics on WHY they love/hate them.  Also, my draw is 27-28" so finger pinch and stacking shouldn't be an issue.  What can you fellas tell me about the Supermag 48, as far as hunting purposes go?  Thanks!

I have an older 48 supermag.  It is the 45lb@28 model.   My son uses it and he loves it.   I have shot it.   I to have a 27/28 inch draw.   I did not have finger pinch with it.   I can shoot it very well.  it is pretty fast and quiet.   It is very light and the size makes it easy to get around with it.    I love the deep pocket grip,  the angle and size fits me very well.   Also, if the newer ones are made like the older ones , it should last many, many years.

Fred and the gang really figured out those short bows. My supermag is a treat to shoot but like all short bows our mistakes will be amplified when shooting at 20 yards or more.
It is a great hunting bow for sure.

I really like mine 55#@28".  Have not hunted with it yet but done in lots of stumps.  Awsome to walk around in the tight stuff with. Im sure any turkey this spring should be careful around me also deer this fall might be in trouble too. Ill be waiting in the thick stuff for them!!

I have a 53lb one made in 1969, I have taken it hunting when in thick brush. It really shines there. You do have to pay attention of your release, & it does pinch a bit, but I pull 29" with a recurve. I haven't used it for a fishing bow, but it should be a good one. It is reasonably fast & with string silencers is as quiet as most recurves. Overall I like it & if I shot recurves as much as I do longbows I'd use it alot. Frank
