Simmons sharks????!!!!
« on: March 26, 2007, 09:40:00 AM »
Has anyone used the simmons tree shark broadheads. They are have a concaved blade. They are 165 grains and have a blade width of 2 1/4 inches. these are huge. $30 for three. You can find them by going on simmonssharks.com then click on glue-on. scroll down until you find the biggest head. that is it. let me know what all you guys and gals think.  I was thinking of using them for deer this year. There was a post about a year ago showing entrance and exit wounds produced by a Treeshark from a low weight bow.  UGLY!!!  I tried to search it and it must have rolled off the server.  Maybe someone saved the pix.

Yes I have. They fly very nicely and quietly.  Great for rabbits or other small game.  Not meant for big game as I discovered with a rib hit on a deer.

Larry,
I would have to take your position!  Now I can't speek about the tree sharks, but I can tell you about the Interceptors and the Tiger Sharks!  I have killed deer with both and they are hard to beet!  If I can figure out this photo bucket deel then I will down load a picture that a budy took of a deer I killed a while back.  He is a compound shooter and he was blown away with the size of the whole the Interceptor made.  I wish the other guys would post some of those awesome simmons pictures that we have seen in the past.

Best broadhead I have ever used.I do not use the screw-in models however. The glue-on are much stronger and when used with adapters are super hogs and deer heads.

James,

I remember you posting a picture of a deer that you shot with a treeshark which darn near chopped the poor critter in half.  It was seeing that photo that convince me to try one.  Maybe I'll have a 2nd look at the glue-on version.  What is different about the glue-on that makes it stronger?

OK, I went to the website and noticed that the blades and tip of the glue-on model are much better supported than that of the screw-in model.

On the screw-in the blade is only supported on one thin place as you can see from the picyutes above. One the glue-on the blade is supported along the ferrel at the back of the blade. It is alwas easier to me to sharpen because the back of the blade does no flex as it does with the screw-in.I use the treeshark and the tigershark both in glue-on models and have no peoblems.Broke the hind leg bone on a good boar this year ay close to 30yds after passing through the ham on the near side.He saw me about the time the sting slipped from my hand and bolted. This is the finishing shot as made his way farther in the swamp. If you look close you can see a treeshark sticking out the front of the offside shoulder. This was 35yds with a 46lb bow.

This hog was only 15 yards and the treeshark went through both shoulder blades and was lost in the canes never to be seen again. It cut the thick ridge in the blade on one side but missed it on the other.Simmons are made for a lot more than small game and don't take a heavy weight bow to use them either.  :)

Hmmm.  Well if I get my wood shafts sorted out in time, maybe I'll those glue-ons this this spring on turkey and bear.  Right now I've got my carbons (Beman Max4 340s) dialed in and set up for 125 grain screw-in BHs (usually slicktricks) with 100 grain brass inserts.

I second what James said "BEST BROAD HEAD I'VE EVER USED". 18 years of Simmons Sharks for me. I've taken deer, hogs, bear, and elk with them. I try to check out everything that looks interesting in broadheads but always come back  to the "SHARKS" To some-what quote MR. Lamb "I know what I like" Don

I cant speak for the tree sharks, but I have killed 8 deer with the same land shark. I shoot the 160 grain. Never had a problem with one of them. I have tried other BH's and always seem to come back to the land shark. Just my 2 cents.
