What length bow were you thinking about? What is it's intended use, hunting in thick stuff, just shooting,3D,tree stands and blinds? I might suggest a different bow for each or one that could do a little of all. Also what is your draw length and price limit?

Best bang for the buck = Kanati.
I also agree with Dave though. You need to find the best for YOU.

Just another for your consideration. The best bow is one that fits you the best.

As Dave mentioned, "favorite" is subjective and you'll likely change in your preferences over time.
I just bought a 64" GN Critter Gitter with the Jack Knife takedown system. I'm not sure that I've ever had a more simple bombproof hunting bow that is also that packable. It shoots purty good too, even for me. Throw a GN LB quiver and it's a light and super compact system that is basically unbreakable.
I have a 64" Griffin and a 60" Shrew that are also great and a bit quicker than the milder Critter Gitter. All are great bows and after the "new bow" fever wears off on the GN, they'll likely all be favorites again.

Find what works for you. try and find a show or some local guys that may have bows that interest you. Try before you buy, Ed

!!! MOST IMPORTANT !!!!
there is
NO
such thing as a "best bow".
there is only the bow that works "better" for you.
you will never find your better bow unless YOU shoot as many bows as possible.
GOOD LUCK!

Dan Toelke has made me 4 "Whips", all 62" at my 29 1/2" draw. Each has been superbly crafted of beautiful woods and they have it all, smooth drawing, stable & forgiving with ZERO handshock. Like me, they love heavy arrows and unlike me are quieter than quiet! While I am a shameless Dan Toelke fan, I can honestly say that other shooter's comments and assesments of my bows have validated my opinions over and over again. Check out Dan's site at
www.montanabows.com
and contact him, you will find him the easiest guy in the world to deal with & incredibly knowledgable about all things Archery.

I've owned and shot alot of longbows. My personal favorite is a Turkey Creek. Mike Treadway makes a good bow too. A couple I'd like to try are - Holm-Made Osprey and a Whippen Stick. Hopefully I'll run into a Holm-Made at Coon Rapids next weekend.
edit: I should have mentioned 21st Century Long bows also. Excellent shooters.

My current fav is ACS-the only bows I have shot seriously for several years. The top bows are really good and 'best' is purely a personal preference thing.

My vote would have to go to John Mc Collough and his Griffin hi-breds....They just don't get any better [probably why it takes so long to get a new one
