Bitzenberger RW w/L Indexer?
« on: June 13, 2009, 11:21:00 AM »
What am I missing?  I have been fletching with my Bitzenberger and using the RW clamp with the Left indexer because it's the only one I own.  The feathers are seated on the shaft fine.  Is there any reason I shouldn't fletch my arrows like this?  So far I've just made some practice arrows and they seem to fly fine.

I have been doing just that for years-no problems at all. Others will give you some explanation as to why it is a sacrelidge to do it that way-can't recall the reasoning.

I think they have right and left indexers for the days of swaged nocks.  They had to get the feather positioning right.  With carbons or alums with a uni bushing it is a non issue.

I fletch wood arrows with glue on nocks.  I cannot see a difference, looking down the fletched shafts, between the orientation of the RW vs. LW in relation to the index on the nock.  In other words the nock index is centered in the helical curve of the feather with either RW or LW even though I'm using the L indexer.

After I posted this, I realized I had posted a similar topic last fall.  I really didn't get a definitive answer then.  I guess I won't worry about it if the arrows are shooting well.

All I know, is that I really like the job the Bitz fletcher does versus the Jo Jan I had been using for 15-20 years.  The Bitz clamp does a super job of holding the feather and the jig is extremely precise making for a great bond of fletch to shaft.
