Does any make a "soft or forgiving" shelf rest?

I am doing some expermenting with new equipment.

Does any one know if some body is making a "soft", perhaps pastic type rest that glues to the shelf?

Years ago some one made a spring steel type of rest that glued onto the shelf.  Hard to describe but it was a half circle made of a spring steel that compressed down on the shelf...so my idea is certainly not new.

I am not interested in a riser finger type rest.

Velcro works good and lasts a long time. It's got some spring too it as well.

I haven't seen one like you are talking about in a very long time. Apparently not enough people liked it as well as you did.

I use my old archery gloves and they work ok. I cut them up and glue them on.

Calf hair on this one needed to be glued back down, but yeah, that is a great rest. I think it is a Saunders "Whisper Rest". It is shown on a Browning Cobra 1.

I was thinking feather rest, too, David. I used them for years, back when I was shooting a solid fiberglass recurve.

I made a homemade feather rest and liked it so much I put one on each of my longbows. They're ultra fast & quiet.

If your arrows are tuned for your bow and both are tuned for your shooting style, the arrow rest doesn't come into the equation once you release the arrow. The arrow should clear the bow through the archers paradox.

That is indeed a Saunders Whisper Rest, Killdeer.  

You can make anything you want or need I suppose with a little thought process.  I mostly use the stick on rests.  That retaining finger keeps the arrow in place for me and poses no other inconvenience.
A velcro rest with a popsicle stick under it also works.  Each person seems to have their own favorite, which shows that a lot of things work very well.

You might also try sealskin.  Works similar to the feather rest and may last longer.

I get the industrial strength Velcro (seems to last longer, way sticky too) and I use a piece of weed eater string under it. On one bow I have a piece of weed eater string under the bottom and one under the side plate. The reason for that is I mostly shoot longbows and this particular recurve is so center shot it messes with my brain so I move the arrow out some so my "instinctive"(don't want to bring that up again for sure) brain pattern will quit shooting so far to the right. Arrows fly well either way so that's good that spine is OK. I have seen way many arrow rest "inventions" in 30+ yrs. of shooting and eventually simple is better seems to win out. If something complicated can malfunction, it will at the worst possible minute (dang ol' Murphy is everywhere ain't he).

Killy...that's the one I was thinking of...would not be practical for me in a hunting situation...but it does show the concept of "give" which allows a greater spine tolerance.

Feather rests are out, again too fragile for my hunting style.  And it rains here a bit in Orygun.

I agree with Rufus, if its complicated or has moving parts Murphy wins at the worst possible moment.  I work far too hard to get a good clean shot for some thing to go awry.

And I agree you can and should tune bow & arrow to shoot off the shelf.  It may take some time but its easy enough to do.

Like I said its an experiment...just curious if someone makes a glue down some what pliable rest.

This rest is as strong as they come and costs less than $3.00.  You can keep several in your pack while hunting.  I've never had one break in the field.

I use a piece of a sheepswool buffing pad, you can trim it taller than velcro, it doesnt "burn" over time like velcro, and has enough "give" to help a sloppy release.
