I have a few Ace Standard broadheads that I'm not planning on using and can give you if your interested. (Free won't break the bank will it?) Let me know.

I see your located in Waukesha.  If your new to archery or to hunting in general, stop out at Ojibwa Bowhunters in New Berlin.  It's located on Johnson road just south of Clevland in New Berlin.(Do a search for Ojibwa Bowhunters of Milwaukee to find our website)  It's a great club with probably around half of it's members shooting traditional equipment.

Wednesday nights are league nights and are open to the public.  Talk to any of the trad guys and they can help you out with any trad specific questions, and talk to just about everybody else carrying a bow or an "arrow launching" device and they will probably be more than willing to give you all the free advice that you would like.  But like George and others have said learn a few key skills and try to keep it simple.

If you would be interested in shooting the ranges, whether it is a league night or some other time, let me know.  If your dad or other buddies are interested as well, we can all shoot and have some fun.

Zwickey or Magnus.. $20.00 or so will buy you a 1/2 dozen.. Get them super sharp and put them where it counts.

Depends if your using left or right wing feathers, if its right id go with single bevel grizzly's you'll get great penetration shooting the lower poundage that your at.

There are many fine broadheads available these days, but my vote for the best value goes to Ace.  Sharpen very well, hold their edge, mount and fly nicely, hammer tough and reasonably priced.  Can't ask for much more.

Why would it matter if the feathers are right or left?

I like ace, stos and zwickey for two blades. Ace are I think the best. You might consider WW or Snuffers if you go up in draw weight. Snuffer 160's are my favorite but my bows are on the heavier side. Magnus two blades are too flimsey for me but others really like them.

Read Dr. Ashby's reports.

In a nutshell, single bevel broadheads rotate through flesh, but if you spin them opposite the bevel, it will actually decrease penetration because the arrow has to stop turning one way and try to turn the other.

And Grizzlys are all right bevel. Zwickey No Mercys can be had with either bevel, but are more expensive. If you are adept with a file, buy Zwickey Deltas and convert them to single bevel to match your fletching. They cost a bit less than the No Mercy.

Get a Buck fixed blade knife, 6" blade. Great knife, nice sheath, affordable. Buy a good set of rubber boots, spend the money on better ones. Get a pair of 7x42 field glasses. Bushnell is OK, Nikons Good, Swarovski's best but no way I can afford them. Buy a fleece hat, not a knitted one.
Wool pants and jacket if it's cold, I hunt in cotton camo sweat pants and hooded jacket in Oct-Nov. Don't worry about Mossy this or real tree that or ASAT. Just get eaarth tones and plaids.Brown, red, green, grey, black. NO BLUES! Deer see blue. Try Cabela's
Make sure to bring your lisence

The best broadhead ques came up on a thread awhile ago. Maybe not the cheapest, but votes on the best. There were 21 different heads mentioned with 39 votes. Zwickey Eskimo came in first with 5 votes. Ace, Simmons, and WW's were tied for second with 4 each. I have been a snuffer fan. This year I'm seting up a new bow and bareshafting some Grizzlystiks this weekend. Pretty interested in the Woodsman.
