Colorado 09 season first tag punched!
« on: June 25, 2009, 02:31:00 PM »
Everyone seemed to like my last years season so will do it again.  The draws are done and I ended up with a bunch of tags, and longer seasons then last year.  I have a OTC either sex elk, cow tag, November muly buck (rifle tag but will bowhunt it) bear tag, turkey tag, and a antelope tag.  I also hope to get a doe tag.  Been scouting alot and the elk, deer, and bear numbers are great way better then last year!  Got a few cameras out and have hundreds of pics.  heres a few samples.

And for some reason no matter where in this state I go I find these.

I plan on being in the South San Juan Wilderness come 8/29/09.  I should have lots of pics when I get back.  I plan on staying at least two days fron the trail head.  Its going to be a good test for my new Go-Lite tarp.

MP what area you hunting?  Its going to be a great year, again like last year lots of elk close to the road that 99% of the guys walk past up the mountain!  also if you could let me know how the Go-lite tarp works.

I can't wait to get the cameras, haven't checked them in a while!  I've been getting a ton of bear pics, and they keep messing with the cameras.  Smallwood we should get together and hunt one of these days.  On a side note I should draw 76 next year!!!!!!!!!!!

So far I've just had the go-lite set up out here in AZ.  I use it to give me enough space to keep my gear dry and to keep the snow off.  It does not keep the bugs off.  So when they are bad I have to zip up my bivy.  Its hard to test stuff here unless your goal is to see how it takes the heat.  I am still looking for hot weather gear that is somewhat cactus resistant.  I hope to get at least one good snow while I'm in CO.  Last time it buried my truck, it took awhile to figure out which snowdrift was mine.

For hot weather you might want to look into a hammock setup.  Been talking to a few guys who use them and it sounds like the way to go!

Oh I forgot to say where I was headed.  I'll be somewhere between Elk Creek and the South Fork of the Conejos.  Depends on how things look when I get there.

I normally come thru Cortez and then take 160 across and stop off in Durango to get my tags.  I normally hunt the Weminuche w. But have also been in Lizzard Head the Flat tops and the San Juan.  Its all good!  I'm still waiting for my first above timberline muley tag.  I can't complain, here in AZ I can walk out of the wilderness areas in at most 3 days. In CO I can spend a week and not even get from one side to the other.

Man been busy!  I just was in WI spearfishing now off to Hawaii in 11 days.  Been dragging butt this weekend after getting 4 wisdom teeth yanked.  Still getting a ton of elk, deer, and bear pics here's a neet newer one (theres just way to many to post them all).
I also moved some camera's into a spot that hopefully a few tradgangers will get to scare a few bulls!

Do you see alot of mountain lions when your out?
There are many good moccasin tracks along the trail of a straight arrow: ( fox )
