I know who's bow this is, and let me tell you. The man is a natural born killer. He also puts more time in the woods hunting than six normal hunters in an average season. He also hunts in several states a year mostly Louisiana and Mississippi though. Not only is he a very, very good hunter, but he's also one of the most humble people I've ever met, and willing to share any info he has to help you or me, or anyone be successful. Type of bow...I don't think he'd mind you sharing, but Apex's just trying get a point across, for 13 seasons this was his weapon of choice. This past season he got a different bow at a lighter weight than the 59@28 bow he has shot for so long. PS, he's also a member here !!!

Yes, he is the best hunter I've ever met. When you are around him, it's hard not to be humbled. A walking encyclopedia on deer hunting. He really enjoys sharing the knowledge that he has accumulated through the years. He is probably drawing social security checks, but still uses a lock-on stand and either climbing spikes or lag bolts with a woodpecker drill. I wish I could spend a couple of weeks with him in the woods. In camp the other hunters gather around him like moths to a flame. A great guy all around!

While he still used a compound, he killed 80 deer in 5 seasons with the same bow. That is some serious hunting prowness!

My guess is if he shot 10 different bows, he'd kill just as many critters. You either got it or you don't. What you shoot, or how many bows you shoot doesn't really make any difference.

Most of us can't comprehend how much time he spent/spends in the woods to achieve these numbers though. His job allowed him to be off ALL of hunting season and there was many seasons that he hunted ALL but a handfull of days. Granted, you have to be a very good hunter to begin with to put up those kinds of numbers, but in talking with him, he'll tell you he doesn't think he does any thing special other than try harder, hunt harder and practice harder than most people even have the chance to.

I disagree, Orion. It makes a huge difference. Ever see any of the big name guys switching five different bows a year? They all shoot one bow, or one make and model. Ever shoot a selfbow all year then try a glass curve, then a longbow?

Theres also alot to be said for the simplicity of being content with what you've got. I think many of us (myslef included) get caught up in new-bow-itis, cant-quit-tinkering-syndrom.

Personally, I'm about over it. Would rather get good with one and stay with it.

Now, if he bagged 'em all with one arrow, that would be something.

Of course, humility forbids marking a tally with gold ink. You can always move your scores around. After all, looking at the spacing on the bow, he has to get a new bow after 40 more deer or just switch to hogs only! All of the tally marks were done at the end of the run - the ink is shiny and the first tally is as shiny as the last!

Thirteen years is a long time to keep one pen!

(Fighter pilots kept a running tally on planes as their squadrons upgraded from a P-47 Thunderbolt razorback in '44, to a bubbletop in '44, and then to the latest P-51s in '45. This means that the last plane they flew may have zero kills but 45 freshly painted swastikas or meatballs.)
