My defination for traditional in this modern time that we are living in has changed somewhat. With the modern advances we have come to enjoy as in fiberglass and carbon in some of the Great Bows that we are enjoying shooting and hunting with, is as follows:

Only has 1 string, hand held, and increases in draw weight with every inch it's pulled back.

A "shooting device" that requires any of the following: pullies, stabilizers, cables, needs a strap around your wrist [to help draw it]with a trigger release attached, or gun stock attached.
Would not by my defination to be considered traditional.

I'm sure there are others who may disagree[ however, I hope not many]   :wavey:

It's no less trad then the carbon arrows or the aluminum ILF riser/carbon foam limb bows others use.Trad is trad, meaning no wheels. That's it.

Why would you ask that question on a Trad bowhunting forum where probably 90% of the guys here are shooting equipment as described?

I shoot with friends that shoot self bows , Trad Tech Titan bows with elevated rest , and everything in between. My 3 piece Crow Creek Longbow may not appear trad to some.I shoot what I like , suggest you do the same . Flinthead
Maybe it is time to shoot what I have on the rack

IMHO you answered your own question in your post when you mentioned the word "recurve".

I'm really new to this, but I've come to realize I'm just a "bowhunter".....who'll take advantages if they suit me/my needs.  Heck with the classification.

Cyrille, I assume you are fairly new to traditional archery. Your question appears to have raised some hackles. Please don't take offense. Compound shooters would call a fiberglass recurve and carbon arrow setup "primitive". We call a self bow and cane arrows primitive. But it's all traditional to me and evidently to most on this site. I guess you can say there are degrees? But it does'nt really matter. Basicly, just NO wheels.

on another note, you have just ordered imo one of the best , top of the line traditional bows that are made. you should be very happy with it and it should last you a lifetime if taken care of.

There's no such thing as "traditional" archery. The lines have been blurred completely. It's all in our minds...

I know little to nothing about trad shooting, but from what I gather, if doesn't have wheels,it's trad...now there seems to be a difference between Trad and Prim right? Prim is like self bows, wooden arrows, real feather fletching, knapped heads and such??
Wanna be for now.

I agree with Rob D. - if it's stick & string - it's trad.  I also think it's defined by each individual to a point.  For me, It's a bare longbow with wood arrows.  Many would say you have to shoot wood to be trad.  Some would say I'm not trad because I have glass in my bow.

I have a friend that has been shooting carbons with vanes (please stop).  I just shot last week with a friend that shoots a recurve with an arrow rest.  He also shoots cans with vanes.  If you tried to say they weren't trad, you'd probably find your nose stinging and leaking a red substance.  Every time I'm tempted to say, "Hey why don't you get rid of that rest" I think of Paul Schafer.  I sure wouldn't have said it to him!
