I havent seen any yet Jim, but I have heard of numerous sightings....Syracuse, Oneida area for sure.
There was a show on Discovery....Pig Bomb....worth watching, a lot of cool info there regarding pics and how/why they are spreading.

None down the Ithaca way yet but I wish they would hurry up. A guy I talked to last year who said he knew of some state land in the Cortland area that was loaded with hogs. Dont know how true it is but who really knows

supposedly there are some in the town of Scott, south of Skaneateles lake, the story I heard is that some russian/wild pigs escaped from a fenced in area...I do know it's all private land there, whether you could get permission to hunt some of it I don't know, and then of course you'd have to find the pigs..

I know what its like dealing with the State of New York, but do they, meaning DEC have any info on Hogs or feral pigs. Or is that a big secert also. I know they can do alot of damage to crops an such but it would be fun to hunt them free range and close to home...

I own some land- 15 acres about 5 miles from the town of Scott
Cortland county, and a friend of mine and I have seen pig wallows on the land. Two were killed by cars last year within a few hundred yards. The local farmer said they put a real hurtin on their crops. I haven't seen one yet, only the wallows. The DEC wants them all dead, probably could get some info. from DEC.

They are around Scott.
Hopefully they don't spread - this is not a fun thing - they are hugely distructive.
DEC is discouraging sport hunting - it can lead to even wider dispersal.
Because of all this, few locals are giving or are likely to give permission for bowhunters to chase them around. They want them slaughtered, so if you want access for a chance at them, take a gun and be prepared to kill everyone you see.
There is a good chunk of state land there for those that want to play, but they are not thick.

A few yrs ago there was 6 boars running around behind my house mainly up near the house's.Nobody claimed them ,we fgured they got loose from some where or maybe dropped off.
After they started causeing considerable damage they started getting shot and that's where I got my only pig.
After seeing the damage they did I'd be in no hurry to have them running around.Winters would be tuff on them too

They are fun to hunt but the problems outweigh the good. They are very destructive, they destroy habitat and crops, they will run your turkeys and deer off and they can carry pseudorabies. If they are not in your area, you really don't want them to move in. Bill

Though I'd LOVE to hunt some wild hogs, there's no way I want them anywhere near me. The thought of them running around in the Catskills tearing up the place is enough to turn me into a sharpshooter with a whole mess of high powered ammo.

Since I have never hunted hogs I am curious. How do those things winter? What do they eat in the winter? We don't have them here but wish we did. Gary

Jim, A guy I hunt with shot one with his bow down near Cortland where he lives. He said three came by his stand and only two left. I saw the pic's and that was some prime pork ! I hope they don't spread they are bad news for the habitat.

A guy who lives in Tioga county told me he has seen them twice while deer hunting.
