We have been seeing quite a few deer and fawns, this is a good sign for a promising year.

I have seen a lot of deer this year. With all the snow that we had this winter, I was expecting a big winter kill, but I have seen more this year than in recent years.

Every morning I leave for home around 5am...been seeing quite a few does and some fawns. yesterday morning I saw 2 bucks in velvet along the road. One had a high rack already, the other looked like it was a 4 or 6 but you can't tell in velvet. All were in good shape....

Western NY is supporting a healthy heard of deer this year as well, in spite of quite a lot of snow, there seems to be quite a good supply of forage for them and the temps have not been too extreme so far. On my place I have seen a good amount of fawns and does, not seen any racks yet to brag about but who knows. All the best to everyone, Joe

The shotgun harvest was waaaaay down last year in my stomping grounds (Southern Chautauqua County in Western NY) because of near waist high snow most of the season. Doesn't look like the winter kill was all that bad though. Bet the DEC will be handing out DMPs like candy this year.

I've been seeing good numbers of Does and Fawns this year. And a few bucks too. Not sure how to judge that, other than seeing more deer this year than last year. All in all, should be a good year.
Jeff.. it will be interesting, since even the "Sportsman" License holders have to pay extra for the DMP's this year. Be interesting to see how well received that goes! So not only is your license going up... if you're use to getting 2 DMP's.. plan on another 20 bucks on top of that!

I haven't seen many deer at all in Oswego County. You guys are lucky! Oh, Jeff, the DEC won't be handing out DMPs this year, they are going back to charging $10.00 per permit. And the license fees are going up ($20 for super sportsman). So it will cost at least $40 more this year for tags.
