Armguard Evolution!
« on: July 12, 2009, 01:05:00 PM »
Art Vincent sent some photos of a leather armguard he's building me for an upcoming elk hunt (A little Mojo might help:^).  Thought you guys and gals might like to see how it's coming along.  Hit you F5 key if the photo doesn't open.

Just checked and those antler rosettes (burrs) are 7" apart in the middle, so no string clearance problems. They will ride on the top and bottom of the forearm.

Do you think it might cause trouble when you try to push through brush?

Great work there. I really like the fade out staining in the background that highlights the elk. Custom armguards are cool. I have several myself. The only problem is deciding which one to wear. One time Paul Schafer and I were hunting whitetails and I stumbled onto his armguard that he'd lost in the timber the day before. I tried the "finders keepers" routine but he snatched it out of my hands. I didn't argue. bw

SWEET leather work---but just myself---i wouldn't like the antler burrs unless they were pretty flat.......I'm thinking along with "beachbowhunter"....................

Ha! The brush isn't that thick in KY . . . and we have thickets of multi-flora rose here!!!  If the bucks can get their racks through that stuff then I believe I can slide these little devils through. Actually, it's no problem; when the are rosettes lashed they tuck neatly out of the way.

Great artwork Art! Thanks for sharing Gary. It’s cool to see most of the process and get an idea of the amount of time that must accompany the talent. The stain appears perfect to match your quivers. I was hoping to talk to art at Comptons, but it sounded like the storm made a direct hit on his camp. Anyway, I’m sure we will get to see more of his works in the future. What kind of latigo are you going to strap her down with?

When you get all decked out with your new matching armguard and quiver I hope you will give us a BIG SMILE when you wrap your mitts around the antlers of the Colorado bull elk you will take in September. Ha! I’m just messing with you Gary. I like your member’s banner photo at top with a fine turkey. I know you're smiling on the inside. :>) Mike

FYI: the armguard is fully lined with vegetable tanned leather which isn't affected by sweat. Sewn with wax impregnated thread to prevent rot.

It will be worth the wait Joe.  Art made me two, one for wearing and "wearing out", the other (shown above) for "Sunday Go-To-Meeting".

If you want to see more of Art's fine work, I just posted some pics on another thread of my side quiver that Art recently made for me. See Cedar Ridge thread.
