Tree Killer

Not bowhunting related, but thought some folks might enjoy the pics.

I've been wanting to shoot some mountain goats with my camera, so a friend invited me to go along to a spot he knows about where a decent goat population lives. So Friday we hooked up for the hike. A USFS trail took us up into the crags where they live, but 2/3's of the way we were walking on snow drifts.

We'd come across the snow field on the right to get to the ridge to glass.

Some of the scenery in the area...

Had hoped to spot some goats on this ridge and further to the right, then hike around to their side for pics. We saw one lone goat on the end, but he was inaccessible for pics.

Ryan spotted a single goat on this peak across the canyon...

Ryan spotted a nanny and kid bedded on this rock outcropping, but they were too far for pics and too far to get to that day.

I cropped a pic and you see 2 little white specks, those are the goats.

to be continued...

Ryan working the binocs. Ryan looks at Tradgang and has a new Blacktail recurve he plans on hunting with this fall.

Mt Rainier

There had been goats on our ridge, as we found tracks, poop, clumps of goat wool along the trails, and a goat bed overlooking a 300ft cliff. I had to go try the goat bed out for size.

Although we didn't find any goats close enough to photograph, we did see 7 total. It was nice to hike in new country and I plan on going back in a couple months to try for photos.

Yep, I crashed the border in search of willing subjects.     ;)   The Washington goats are about 3-4 hours closer then the Oregon goats.

That sure is some awesome country and what a great day afield. When I was up that way last those Mtns were shrouded in clouds.

I did find your border comment amusing and see that even Washington can't keep that southern border secure.
A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight;nothing he cares about more than his own personal safety;is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.
