69# works on rabbits
« on: July 14, 2009, 07:39:00 AM »
i went for a hunt this arvo at my alltime favourite rabbit hunting spot. i basically grew up hunting rabbits here.
i've been working into my 69# limbs for a while now in preparation for buffulo hunting.
so i thought i would take them out and try and blood them.
i had a few near misses, a few not so near misses   :o   but i connected on the last shot of the day.

it's good to be back home in oz!!!!!   :archer:

Bet that gave a satisfying "WHOP!". Rabbits are one of my favorite things to hunt, even more so than some big game animals. Can you eat yours over there?

Same here Joe. Nothing better than a pan of fried rabbit.

Clint... those bunnies will have you in shape with the 69#er before you know it.

There's no place like home.

Charlie, I think we need to make plans for a trip to Curtis's for a "rabbit and ribbit" trip    :readit:

Joe... I think flying to Clint's to chase bunnies may be out of the question right now.
   ;)
So a trip to Curtis' might just be the ticket... I hear he's got some new property with real good bunny numbers.

Nicely done Clint!!

Mind If I ask what arrow setup you're using? Im expecting a 70#er and need some arrow input. Thanks!

Dave, I don't see an exit hole on that mouse....

Better step up the weight a little so you can get a pass through next time.  I hear the scapulas onmice are incredibly tough.    :bigsmyl:

I've come to believe that the keys to shooting well for me are good form, trusting the bow to do all the work, and having the confidence in the bow and myself to remain motionless and relaxed at release until the arrow hits the mark.

Got a complete pass thru on this dove using my 77 lb Brack Quest   :D

Seriously, is 69 lbs big enough for buff????

Hey OZ that looks like a California rabbit, i thought the rabbits over there were 6' tall with big long tails  :saywhat:

Glad to hear you made it home ok, hope your trip through Cali was nice and you had time to see some sights, Its a nice state as long as you stay out of the big cities.

i'm currently in Eukey (just a small locality out of town) where i grew up. it is 16km south of stanthorpe which is about 300km southwest of brisbane, queensland. lots of rabbits here. up north where you were there is hardly any rabbits. there's many other critters up north to hunt as you know. i'm just about to move to gove in the NT. hopefully lots of buffulo hunting.

matebele- this is my arrow setup....

75/95 g/tip, 100gr insert, 250gr b/head, and a 'special' weight tube setup. just behind the insert there is a piece of the white 8gr/" tube inside of which is a piece of 4mm diameter welding rod with the flux taken off. 4mm rod fits nicely inside this white tube. this part weighs 65gr. behind that the rest of the shaft is filled with the black 3gr/" tube. total weight of arrow is 790gr. i'm going to put a small aluminium footing on soon just to reinforce that area.
my bow is shooting these at 165fps at the bow with dacron. i'm thinking of changing to D97, so that may go up tp 170fps. you do the math.      :)

this is my blunt.
it is a chipboard faster with the female threaded part drilled out. they go behind a field point, much the same as an adder point. a bit of rip and tear as well as shock.

Aw man, Ozy! And you didn't even mention the best hunt of your life with the new California buddy? Damn, I know you want to keep it a secret and all, but...   :campfire:
