2-3 hours north of Denver you are in Wyoming!  I think you will need to go west some as well as north, but there should be plenty of bears.  You have some wild places around Rocky Mountain National Park, Steamboat north to the Wyoming border, Poudre Canyon etc....

Colorado archery bear tags went on sale over the counter this morning at 9:00AM. If you are wanting one, you need to apply right away as they are limited.

I have been elk hunting since 1980 on Bull mountain and were we camp you can see the lights of Laramie,WY I have seen bears almost everytime we been elk hunting,my daughter lives up at Red Feather, and there are lots of bears around, my son-in-law has to hoist his garbage can up into a tree to keep the bears from getting it,last summer when we were there had one on the deck wreck his grill,I have seen bear driving aroung Cherokee Park,in the spring of 1978 I shot bear over at Paradox,CO was the 2nd largest taken with a bow that year 20" 11/16" and he was brown colored,

Muley40's right. Fair amount of bears up here. They've wreaked in developments in the area that don't allow hunting.
Had to spook a sow with cubs off my porch the other night. Saw a few really close while elk hunting in units 7 and 8 last year. Didn't have a tag. Picked up a tag yesterday!
