Cape Buffalo 3 weeks away
« on: July 14, 2009, 05:27:00 PM »
I head over to Africa the 1st of August. One week of work, 4 Days at Badger Bush plains game hunting and then to Dries Vissers for a try at Cape Buffalo. My setup is going to be a 83# @ 28 PSA V with a combo arrow. I took a 29" Heritage 350 shaft and put a 22" Beman 50/60 shaft inside of it using a 8 grain per inch weight tube to fill the rest of the shaft. 125 grain brass insert with 200 grain GK heads. Weighs 908 grains. I don't have a chronograph but it casts about the same as my 74# with a 700 grain arrow. My only problem right now is the 100 plus degree afternoons. I can shoot about a dozen arrows then I'm so sweated down I can't hang on to the bow. I have to go in and cool down before return to try another dozen. I guess it is good it is so hot. I would most likely hurt myself shooting too much if not for the heat. I'm pumped

You're pumped?

Just wait until you get within spitting distance of that "Black Death".

Good luck!

Hope all goes well Marty and also hope you do a better job of sticking a buff than I did. Your arrows are essentially the same weight as mine, but your bow is 15 pounds heavier. You should have no problem if the arrow goes into the right spot at the correct angle.

Looking forward to the story, the pics and best of all a Buff v Buff video!!! Good luck! Like others have said this is definitely one of my dream hunts.

To me, the ultimate challenge in bowhunting is not how far away you can succesfully make a killing shot but rather how close you can get to the animal before shooting.

Froggy -- that quote comes from Robert Ruark in his book "Horn of the Hunter", not Peter Capstick, but Peter probably repeated it.   :)

You alright Buff? Why the attempt at suicide?   :scared:

I'd try skydiving, alligator wrestling or runnin' in front of them angy bulls in Spain before I'd attempt killing a Water Buffalo with a stick - and I aint saving my vacation time and pinchin' my pennies for any of 'em!   :p

Good luck, definitely pack extra shorts - and for God's sake - write a will and pack a video camera!   :jumper:

All kidding aside, be safe, stay hydrated and whack a monster for us less-adventurous type!
