Longbow reviews ???
« on: July 15, 2009, 12:49:00 PM »
I have shot a recurve about 15 years now, But I am looking to try a longbow, problem is my area has very few longbow shooters so I am looking for input on your favorite longbow.
It needs to be a takedown around 50# @ 28 weight range and I like the looks of a true hill style longbow. Tell me what you like.........

I second the Mohawk. I haven't shot the takedown model but I do have a one piece and it shoots great.

Personally, I love it. It seems to be one of those love it or hate it things. I've had lots of people shoot it, and most seem to like it a lot. I can't think of a smoother drawing, easy to shoot bow.

larry,

any and all topics that ask loaded questions such as "what's a good longbow?", "what would you recommend?", "recurve or longbow?", "2 blade, 3 blade or 4 blade?", etc. etc. etc., are totally useless for the question poser.  all yer getting are the opinions of others, people who (we'd surely hope) have formed their opinions based solely via hands-on experience (again, we hope).

reviews are interesting reading, as there are hard facts you'll learn.  we do have a reviews forum for you to check out.  reviews should all be read with the same opinion viewpoint expressed above.

to find out what longbow will work best for you requires hands on testing.  period.  and even then, it might take quite some shooting to discover what was the best thing since sliced bread ain't any more.  some bowyers offer trial bows via mail - i suggest you seek those folks out first if you really have no local access to longbows.

other than that, threads like this are amusing at best - and there may come a day when they won't be allowed.      :scared:

i have a few hills, i like the nostalgia they afford.

a hill is a straight limbed longbow with a braced "D" limb shape.

a mohawk is mild r/d longbow with braced "D" limb shape.

mild r/d longbows are inherently faster that straight limbed longbows, without sacrificing that "longbow stability" factor.

them's the facts, jack.  both longbow styles are quite worthy on the hunt, as history proves.  bottom line, you need to shoot both types to understand all them words i spewed out above.
