I've used them, and don't recommend the type I tried. The taper wasn't deep enough to get the full taper into the adapter, and it was a weak point in the assembly. I had failures during practice sessions. And, as Bowsey said, you have to line up three things instead of two, which can be enough of a challenge. Also, they were made of aluminum, and the threads were easy to strip. It's a lot easier to just get a good glue-on.
If there are any newer types that give better results, I don't know about them. I tend to be kind of out-of-date.
