Days are getting noticeably shorter, just a hint of coolness in the morning, can't be long now...

47 days for my Alaska black bear hunt. Im starting to loose sleep over it. I told my wife the other day that I was getting excited because hunting season is getting close, she responded " it's always hunting season". Ha.

Good luck everyone and be safe.

I have a countdown timer on my desktop.  At the time of this post, there are 68 days, 15 hours, 42 minutes, and 24 seconds till deer season.  Wait, 23 seconds, 22...

My deer season opens here in KY on Sept. 15, have been looking over FFC's on a regulare basis while shooting. FFC stands for Future Freezer Candidates. On Oct. 3-9, wife and I are going elk hunting, she drew a bull tag here in eastern KY so we are pretty pumped about that, we hope to have 3-4 deer in the freezer before we go elk hunting.

I was just sitting here thinking, man this is the most boring time of the year, 53 days till deer season opens.

I took a month off from shooting the bow to chase smallmouths and largemouth bass around. First week of August we start getting serious and mid Sept will find me in CT chasing whitetails. Then Jersey, then maybe a few days in NY in October. This is the grown ups way of anticipating Xmas!

To all those with scheduled hunts in distant places, I wish you luck. For those of you that are looking forward to hunts in familiar places that are just out the back door, I wish you luck.

I`m teaching my kids to hunt. They are learning that the learning never stops...the drive to hunt never stops.

We are enjoying the summer...the blueberries, sweet corn, swimming, nightcrawlers, fishing with mosquitoes in your ear,...but we are indeed counting the days, even if it IS just out our back door.

Ok - as of right this moment, Ohio's whitetail archery season opens in 63 days, 9 hours, 12 minutes and 30 seconds...

But who is counting?

Just bought my plane ticket, should be warming up on ground squirrels at the end of August then spending a bunch of time in Washington chasing big game in September.  I can't wait!

I always thought that our bowhunting brothers and sisters had it better than downunder when it came to hunting. I get to go hunt deer whenever the wife issues me with a day pass.
