vapor carbonwood 5000 inserts

Hey everyone,

I need a little help. I purchased some discontinued Carbonwood 5000s from a local shop and they only had 6 inserts for them. No big deal,I bought a dozen and they will order more inserts in for the remainder. They have a couple dozen left so they need more on hand. The guy called me and said he can't get them anymore since the Carbonwoods or Vapor brand was bought by GT and everything they have is to small. Does anyone know where I can get a dozen inserts?
By the way, a group of us and my two young sons (6 and 8 years old) went to ETAR and had a great time. While getting wet at the Eagle Eye, I got to shake hands with Mr. Ferguson. What a suprise!

they have always been a .244 insert - if it's a standard insert I have some - if weighted same as Beman ICS and GT 5/16 shafts. Unless something changed.

YEP the insert is to small, they are the same as a 1913-or 1914 insert. I was in the same dilemma,, try those I will bet one or the other will work..I used the 1913 in the 4000 carbonwoods, worked perfectly

David, you will need some serious front end weight for those babies...they are spined for about 75/85.

Adding tip weight is what I had in mind. But right now I've got them cut at 30-3/4" with a 125gr. field point and they're flying beautiful. My draw is 29-1/2" and I'm shooting them out of my 55# Bob Lee Signature One Piece. I've shot them with a 150gr. Woodsman and I'm impressed. I want to load the tip some more to get around a 600gr. arrow and I'm curious to see how they continue to fly. I want to bare shaft a few arrows with different weight points and insert weights to increase my FOC ratio. This is the first time I've toyed with this and its getting interesting. I chronoed my bow at ETAR with 3 shots with the highest speed at 198fps. and the lowest at 195fps. so I don't know if this has some affect on the stiff spine. When I bought the arrows I had a sinking feeling that I just wasted some good green but they are shooting good.
Any other feedback would be greatly appreciated from anyone.

I`ve been shooting Carbonwood 5000`s for several years. I have not had issues with the inserts being the wrong size. I use the same inserts as the Gold tips.

George is right about the spine and the fact that they like front end weight. I draw a bit over seventy @ 29", and still load them up front. It seems the heavier the better.

These arrows are by far the most durable I have ever used.

David...did you cut 'all' the shafts or just the ones you fletched up?   adding point weight to a shaft that already flies well will undoubtedly weaken the spine..  

I just bareshafted some carbonwood 3000's to my (now deceased) 56@ 28 recurve with 300 grains up front and ended up about 29.5" of actual shaft length (which includes the added 1/4" length of the insert, and nock throat).

Edited for:  I also noticed that the brass inserts I usually use in my CX shafts slid in beautifully into these carbonwoods, in the CX shafts I have to apply alot of pressure to get them in sometimes, so definitely a different inner dia.
