Due to a lot of emphasis on gear, I don’t read all of the articles in Bowhunter Magazine like I used to. But in the October 2009 (latest) issue, I ran across an article by Joe Lasch (Tradgang’s own Whip). It was a nice story about Joe’s efforts to pass his hunting heritage down to a youth. Thank you Joe for sharing your traditional values! Mike

Thanks guys.  It came as kind of a surprise to me too.  My nephew won the Bowhunter Magazine Youth Essay contest 4 years ago and the grand prize was a bear hunt in Saskatchewan.  I submitted an article after we got back and it took this long to get published.  Better late than never I guess!

Just read the article...very nice indeed.  My highlight last year (and one of my best hunting memories to date) was hunting with my nephew.  When I first started dating my wife in 1996 he was just one…last year was the first time I got to hunt with him, what an absolute blast!  I remember hunting with my uncles growing up and I idolized all of them, it was an utter thrill to be the uncle this time!

We froze the last two mornings of the Michigan Gun season in a blind and he took his first deer the last night with his father, grandfather and an ecstatic uncle not far away.  Still remember hearing the shot and the busting of brush that followed, that sound will forever be in my head and will always create a smile.

Awesome read!

I got my issue early last week and couldn't help myself from calling Joe to tell him he is not just a great uncle, but an all around great guy.  Those of us that get to spend time with him are better for it

Everywhere I look lately, Joe is there...I looked at a Bowyers Journal last night, Joe on the cover, I look at Traditional Archers World the other day, an article by Joe, PBS Magazine; article by Joe, Bowhunter Mag, article by Joe...and on and on and on.

Must be nice to be retired  :goldtooth:
