As of this afternoon the bow hasn't arrived.  I am leaving on a four day turkey hunt in the morning; hopefully it will be here when I return next week.

Jeff, Charles is doing the tip overlays (unless we decide on using some big horn sheep horn I have) so you need to get the scrap pieces from him.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

Thanks Charles

The mailman just brought the bow and it is looking good!!  I have to finish getting ready for my hunt then might have enough time to start the tillering, if not I'll get started on Tuesday evening during the weekly bow building session at my house.

Do I post the pictures here, send them to John, or both?

Doc I just started a scrap yard so just send any of that there scrap. I could study the edge and learn how to put a great edge on a blade.  :bigsmyl:  <><

We got hit with rain for most of the hunt, which in eastern Montana means GUMBO, so you do not drive off the main roads.  We were able to chase a few gobblers but didn't have any real close encounters.  Tillering is scheduled to begin this evening and pictures will be posted as it progresses.

I started the tillering process this evening and am almost at the short string stage.  I will do a little more tillering, make a string, and file in some string nocks before taking a break.  Here are a few pictures:

This is the stave floor tillered by John and ready to go.

Here is the bow bending at forty pounds: it’s a little stiff on the right side.

The stave has a couple of twists and bumps so I am leaving this section of the upper limb the way it is for now.

It is still a little stiff in the right side, but ready for a short string.

Got back to the tillering this morning and have it to the 22” mark.  The first picture is the bow braced and the second is it drawn to 22” @ 40#’s.

Any suggestions are welcome.  The tips are a little out of center (3/16”) and the tips have been moved as far as possible.  I might have to bend it through the handle after tillering if I am unable to get it back in line.  I will work on the bow for another hour or two before going for an evening bear hunt.  Hopefully I will have the bow in the mail tomorrow or Tuesday.

Walt, Take your time, keep it all week if you think you can refine it thru the tillering. Good luck on the bear hunt...

I'm one of the worst at reading tiller pics..... I much prefer to have the bow in front of me but I'd say the inner 1/3 is looking good on both limbs.... Outer 1/3 looks a bit stiff on the left limb and I'm really having a hard time getting a read on the right limb with that little dip on the end and the shadows...... Maybe a little stiff mid limb???? Coming along right nice Walt....... Terry

Thanks Terry and John.
Got back to the tillering this morning and have it down to 50#’s @ 26”, the target weight is 50#’s @ 28”.  At this point the string is nearly centered on the bow so I shouldn’t have to do any bending.  I took some pictures of me drawing the bow to about 26” from both sides of the bow, left and the right.  Any input suggestions?  I will try to get it in the mail tomorrow.
