Bows From New Tool Handles?
« on: March 30, 2007, 09:46:00 AM »
I was wandering through the HUGE Store here in town, when I happened upon a whole Bunch of Different Size & Shaped Replacement Handles for Shovels, Axes, etc.
I know its been Discussed on here, so: What is a Good Size & Shape to make a Self Bow From? There were LOTS to choose from, and I am just curious Who has Made them, and Did they Hold Up? I figure LONG handles for LongBows, depending on Thickness/ Handle Size.
Thought it might make another, Yes, ANOTHER Outlet for Winter Madness for Next Winter. Trying to think ahead. Action Word: Trying.      :wavey:

I did once hear of a guy (possibly on here, possibly not...) that made a functional & quite useable selfbow from 2 pick-axe handles, spliced together.
Don't see why it couldn't/shouldn't or wouldn't work.....

The Traditional Bowyer's Bible has an article on this, but I can't remember the exact volume.

Resourceful archers have been doing this very thing forever. They even coined a name for it... "axe handle yew".

"Axe Handle Yew", any Port in a Storm Right? I will dig out the 3 Volumes and see what They say. Thanks, I forgot about that in the Bowyer Books. I KNOW I read that section, but I have slept a Time or 2 Since!
