Snuffers hissing
« on: August 10, 2009, 11:44:00 AM »
This is my first time using Snuffer 160s and they are hissing slightly. I have the blades in line with my feathers. They are flying nicely and hitting, so I really don't want to play around moving the heads. Anybody ever have this problem? Thanks in advance.

Mine too.

Did not find any adverse effect on deer.
I believe the string noise is the most important.

Good luck,

Doesn't matter. Never missed a deer because of it.

The new Woodman Elites hiss too - they say it's the blade braces

I shoot G5 Montecs and they are silent

The regular woodsmans hiss a little as well.  I have come to like the sound.

I have heard of an archer putting scotch tape over the vents to quiet the 3 blades. Sounds like it might work.

SO very, very, true!!!  No need to worry about it, I've never had an issue with that sound.

I've yet to kill anything with the big snuffer but plan to this fall...the hiss is really my only concern even after hearing folks that have had very good luck say not to worry.

I've yet to ever watch a video that the deer hasn,t reacted and moved before the arrow got there which is where the concern for quiet flight comes in...most of us would duck if we heard something heading our way or at least flinch and we don't have anywhere near the reaction time of game animals

I can get them sharp and get them to fly well but the hiss is there...we'll see....LOL hopefully a gusher coming out both sides hahahahahaah
Shoot straight and have FUN!!

I've killed several animals with the big Snuffers, and if the hiss affected them I couldn't tell it. I've never heard the hiss, but my ears aren't what they used to be...

Aluminum arrows make a good bit of noise in flight that you don't hear with wood- if the broadhead noise spooked deer, surely the singing of aluminum in flight would do likewise.

Tom, the string noise at the release is what trigger game reaction, at least IMO

Good luck this fall

Although I've killed a few with em, they are loud, like a windstorm heading to the target, switched to large 2 blade head, works good for me ...
