FOV on those are aprox 125' at 100yds. 400' at 1000yds, not sure of the quality difference on the new & improved coatings!

That's not possible.

FOV is a linear relationship.  In other words, if you have 125' FOV @ 100 yds, then at 1000 yds. it would be 1250'.  If you have a 400' FOV @ 1000 yds, then you have a 40' FOV @ 100 yds.

I don't have the exact specs of the binocular that was asked about, but I guarantee it does not have a FOV of 125' @ 100 yds. No binocular made has anything close to that.

The 400' @ 1000 yds. (hence 40 ft @ 100 yds.) measurement is possible.
What if the hokey pokey really is what it's all about?

lucznik, you are correct! I must need stronger glasses! (grin) I thought it said 100m & it was a 1000m, yea I'm half blind! Thanks for setting things straight! The 1000m one is correct at aprox 400' FOV

I can guarantee you that the coatings on the older binos are not even close to being as good as the newer coatings. The grinding of the glass has really not improved that much over the years among the premium optics makers, and the glass, while better, is not incredibly better. But the coatings are much, much better than they used to be. In fact, that is the primary improvement in premium optics over the last 20 years. Also, many more binos are being fully multi-coated with the new coatings as opposed to most older binos only receiving the coatings on a few lens surfaces. Even over the last 5 to 10 years coatings technology has improved dramatically. The new Swarovski 8x30 SLC is very noticeably better than the older models, at least to my eyes. The same is true of other premium optical makers like Leica and Zeiss. The improved coatings on all lens surfaces is the main reason that companies like Vortex can begin to compete with the premium makers, with the newer high end Vortex binos being optically about as good as the premium binos of 10 years ago. Elknut knows that better than most since he is a Vortex dealer. I prefer my Swarovskis and Leicas, but I wouldn't be upset if I were relegated to hunting with the best Vortex binos.

I've had a pair for about 20 years I guess. I can't answer your question about how they compare to the newer 8x30, but the old 7x are excellent glass.  Even though they are only 7x you will see much better than with mid-priced binocs of higher magnification, especially in low light. You would be hard pressed to find a better pair of binocs for the eastern whitetail woods.  I think I paid about $325 back in the late 80's, and that was a lot of money to me back then (still is).  I have never regretted it.

Thanks so much gang, I'll put this purchase on hold and save my money and purchase a newer SLC bino.
