Stump shooting
«

While on vacation I was able for the first time to do a little stump shooting. Now I know why you do it, it was a great way to spend time. Just me and God in the woods. Then I realized that I did not know if I was breaking the law, so I stoppped. Anybody know if it legal in Wisconsin, and under what conditions would it be legal?
I was using G5 Small Game heads with the wire grass catchers behind it.

Chester. If there is any game in season, then it is legal to hunt and miss game. In Pa. it is legal as it causes no harm to plant or animal life, and no undue harm to others in the woods.
Check with the DCNR or whoever is over the hunting in WI.

I know is southern Michigan on state land its a gray area because it is posted no target shooting except in designated area (rifle & shotgun range) I teach Hunters Safety and have had this discution with our local Concervation Officer. Who is now playing around with traditional equipment :-)

You can target shoot on private land in WI. You cannot (for the most part) target shoot on public land. So you are all good stump shooting on private property.
We still are trying to figure out this stump shooting thingy here. It throws the game wardens for a loop. I just try to avoid it on public land during the non-hunting seasons.
Enjoy you stay.

Totally legal to stump shoot on public land in Wisconsin, I do it all the time. The no target practice is for guns. I went to a forest headquarters in the North Kettle Moraine and spoke with the Forest Superintendent and the Game Warden, they both said have fun and be safe! Besides Coyote hunting is open all year 24/7...

It's trick stumping judos. Anything can be a target. Different ranges never knowing really makes you buckle down to the fine spot. Best hunting practice IMO.
