Just a note to let folks know I will be out of town starting Wednesday, September 2 and will be back no later than Monday, September 14.

I will be in the middle of nowhere in West-Central New Mexico doing my best to bleed out an elk.

As I understand it, cell phone reception is sparse to non-existent where I'm going, and I will have no computer access at all, so don't give up on me if you don't get a quick reply.  Shoot me an e-mail or leave a message on my shop phone (please state your call-back number slowly, clearly and at least twice) and I'll get back to you asap when I get back.  I've had up to 400+ e-mails after being gone for a 3-day weekend, so it might take me a couple of days after I get back, but I will do my best to reply to all.

Wish me luck!

Chad

Good luck!  Lookiing forward to the stories.  I can't imagine any time in New Mexico during the elk rut not producing some stories.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

Good luck, Chad.  Whack a big one.  Hope your ankle holds up well.  I'm biting the bullet for  a new knee next spring.

What unit are you hunting?  Steve

Thanks men!  My ankle is still toast--I have my good days and not-so-good days--but it's going to have to get worse to keep me from hunting!  I wear my brace, and on the worst days I have some pharmacuticals to get me through.  Haven't had to get the crutches out in a long time, rarely had to use a walking stick lately, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I couldn't have picked a better place to hunt if I'd had a million bucks to spend on it.  No mountains, easy acess with a vehicle.  Pack-out will be short.  It's private land near Quemado (West Central NM), and I got really lucky getting a chance to hunt it.  I have no idea what unit it is or is close to--my tag is through the property owner.

I plan to take a lot of pictures, might even post the story if I have a good one (it ain't going to be a play-by-play that takes 10 days to finish if I do--I don't have that kind of patience).

6 days and counting! (leaving Wed. afternoon)

Chad
