Idaho Bear?
« on: September 05, 2009, 10:32:00 PM »
I am still in Iraq, for a couple more months, and have been looking for quite some time for a place to hunt bear next spring. I wont be home in time to hunt this fall, as i am sure most places are booked by now. I came across Silver Spur Outfitters in Idaho. Does anyone have any experience with them? I am not stuck on any one area in particular, so if you guys have had good experiences in the past, and can recommend a place, please do so. I have never hunted bear before, and am really looking forward to giving it a shot.

Almost forgot.. Being in Iraq right now, its not very easy to call an outfitter, becasue of the time difference. So, if you know a particular outfitters website, that would be very helpful. Thank you

Jonathan, check out this thread, not Idaho, but closer to your home in Ohio.  Tom and the boys put on a great hunt, and the company is second to none

Johnathan,

Firstly, thank you for your service!

I do not know about Silver Spur Outfitters even though I lived in the same county until 5 years ago.  The county spans the state from Oregon to Montana.  I hunted on my own and didn't get to know many outfitters.  The country is great, though.  You could contact the Idaho Outfitters & Guides Assoc. for info on them.   http://www.ioga.org/

If you are not set on them, Ted Fry from Raptor Archery (a sponsor here) coordinates a Spring bear bow hunt and bow building class through Weitas Creek Outfitters.  Here is a link to this year's time:   http://tradgang.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=074756;p=1

I would like to do this someday and have talked with Ted about it.  It sounds like a good time.  PM Ted or shoot him an email at his web site.

Praying that you have a safe return home,

Ray

Thanks a lot guys. I am looking at some places in Canada right now too. I looked at Maine, but found out they didnt have spring bear season. I will check out the place you have mentioned. Thanks again
