While reading my new hunting license regulations book......

Just got my Maryland hunting license today. Just reading through and though I would share a couple of things:
1. There is a different set of regulations for "vertical bows" and "crossbows" I can't recall seeing the whole "vertical bow" classification in prior years
2. Vertical Bow Regulations: "for hunting bear and deer the vertical bow shall have a full draw and pull of not less than 30 pounds"
How in the world did they come up with 30 pounds being the benchmark? Is this another example of "thats how its always been" type of thing? Has there been some sort of "study" that determined that 30 pounds still did the job?
Curious on your thoughts.....

Hey buddy, It's a very minimum partner, and those minimums were well thought out back in the 50's and 60's.
Pa. is 35 pounds, and 35 pounds will kill a deer, has killed deer, and allows for youngster and those little ladies to hunt....as well as my old father-in-law who just turned 95.

Amen George, my kids would both be legal hunters. Just was curious how it was established. It is 75# for crossbows to be legal.

Wow, George, your father in law is 95 and still hunts!!!!
My hat is off to that man and I hope I can follow in his footsteps.
I wish him success in the deer season. What a thrill it must be for him to still get out in the woods and hunt.

Probably some "Politician" came up with it, who of course, "Never" even shot a bow, much less hunted with one ... Good luck in Md. I'll be there also ... Come on November !!
