I'm still thinkin about it. I'm having hard time pulling myself away from a nice, new spot. 5 bucks have been seen hanging out in a field together on a regular basis.

Went to a yard sale today. I got a Loc-on stand, a NEW yellow jacket block target, and a blaze orange pack from with a blaze orange ruck for 35$. Now I can carry stuff in an organized fashion, albeit bright.  :goldtooth:

I can check again but we might not need to worry about firewood: if I remember well we are allowed to use all the dead wood on the ground. And there is plenty. I never had to bring in any wood and I spent as long as a week with a party of seven, primitive style camping and no other fuel source than the wood on site.

Talked to Dad this afternoon and he'll be doing some scouting for us.  He said when he was up to the lean-to last winter there was plenty dead wood around, so no need to pack in some wood  :)   He thought the general plan sounded good for the area too.

I'm planning on getting up there early Friday afternoon.

Dead and down is the rule-for firewood... I shoulda said that earlier...LOL.

Really looking forward to this. I have been out in the woods a bit, but not enough. Picking wild mushrooms, setting stands. Turkey scouting.

It will be nice to hunt with friends in the Catskills.

Who's showing up when?

The parking areas aren't very big.  Those of us showing up on Friday afternoon should probably meet at my parent's house (Downsville) and ride over together.  Dad could always drop some guys off too.  He'll be doing a little guiding and showing us where the good apples are and some major trails... he hasn't decided if he'll join us around the fire.

I redid the tips on my beloved '59 Grizzly and the '59 KSpecial will be making the trip with me as well.

I believe we'll be there Friday pm. Would love to have your dad around the fire. There must be something we can do to make it more tempting.  :)

Getting closer now boys!  :D

What do y'all want to do about food  ;)

I plan on borrowing one (or both) of Dad's coleman stoves, but don't have much beyond the old Boy Scout mess kit for cookware.  I'm not sure what Dad has.

I made up a spice mix a few nights ago for some cajun blackened fish... figured that's a good one to warm you up after a day on the stand.

Potatoes?
Quick-cook rice?
The last venison steaks in the freezer?
Apples/pears?
Oatmeal?
coffee (a must as far as I'm concerned  :) )
Bread?
PB?
Greenery of some sort

It looks like I might make it. It's my B-day but my GF said she'd push any plans off a bit. I can bring anything, just depends on if it's a back pack trip or closer to the trucks on which gear I bring. i have plenty of venison and wild boar and I'm sure I'll have fresh meat by then anyway. just let me know

I hunted the Catskills back in the 70s. I think the name of the town was Prattsville, near Roxbury. 5 of us leased 100 acres from a farmer named Tony Zoccaro, excellent hunting...PR

How far is parking from camp?
We'll bring some bacon for the fire, bread, and a cold dish (potato salad)

I'm waiting to hear from my Dad where the good sign is.  If it's where I'm hoping, there's the lean-to about .75 miles from the access road.  If sign is scarce and abundant elsewhere we'll just camp 200-300 ft from one of the roads.
