limb clicking noise!!!
« on: September 15, 2009, 06:08:00 PM »
hi guys i've just bought a samick deermaster takedown recurve, and being new to archery, i just strung it up and shot it (at 5 1/2 inch brace height!!!)well after severe wrist slap i realised my brace height was way to low, i now have it at 9 inches (no info arrived with the bow so do you think thats about right?)but now as i draw the bow the limbs click!!, i've screwed down the limb bolts as much as i dare but i still have the problem. have any of you guys had this problem??.

Ive not had that problem, but i would try the brace height at 7.5 to 8 inches or somewhere their abouts.

Try using some thin (less than 1mm) neoprene rubber between the limb and riser.

I argee with HcSmitty, most all recurves brace between 7 and 8 inches.  I would start and 7 and work your way up until you reach the spot where your best arrow flight, quietest bow noise and hank shock is reached.  If your bow clicks on the first couple of draws and then quits it may just be your string settling in on your limb tips.

I had this same thing happening with my takedown. I got the advice to wax the area where the limbs bolt down to the riser. I never thought it would work but I finally did it and have never had any noise since. Also I agree with the others 7.5" to 8" for a brace height. Good Luck..Henry

I agree about the brace height, I have a take down bow and I have a thin piece of felt where the limb bolts to the riser.  good luck on the noise

thanks for the advice folks, gonna try the wax  (easiest option)first, and drop the brace height.

Chap stick works great, the alignment pins is where your problem is .

It could also be your bowstring sticking to the limbs. Try removing the wax where it touches the limbs.

Wax where limb and riser join. I had the same problem. The wax stopped the click but it lead to a more serious issue of cracks radiating out from the bolt hole.

Just for reference
I would examine the set pin area and the limb bolt section carefully for any small cracks in the glass now and as part of a normal routine.

If in doubt I would go back to the dealer sooner rather then later.

This is actually quite common on TD recurves, and this question shows up here several times each year. As mentioned above, it can come from wax in the string groove(s), or from under the butt end of the limbs. It's nothing to worry about (if not due to a damaged limb), but it will sure put a deer on red alert at the moment of truth if you don't fix it!
