It was an early morning today, up at 0345 to head-out for a hunt. At about 8am, I was slowly creeping through some beautiful, shaded reeds strewn with clumps of pandanus, when I spied non-wallaby movement ahead (rare indeed). I carefully and slowly worked my way over there, and found nothing. I kept moving along the edge of the mud and water, and soon picked-out movement again. I closed to about a dozen yards and studied the shadows through the binoculars, spying a blob of suckers all huddled together. I kept waiting for something larger to show, and did catch a brief glimpse of mature pig. Suddenly, right near the blob of suckers, a boar just sat-up (how he concealed himself from me, I don't know, as he was right in front of me), eyed me, "whoof!"ed - and pigs exploded everywhere. I swear I just stood there doing nothing, and my bow launched a perfect arrow all by itself at a large target. The arrow disappeared and passed-through, and the pig ran twenty yards, paused, and fell forwards, quite dead. The bow was a 70" Howard Hill Wesley Special, 75# @ 28". The arrows were about 700 grains of Douglas fir and STOS. I'm quite pleased, as I don't consider myself to be very practical, and yet I've learned how to make my own wooden arrows (after buying the raw shafts), and... today my bow was wearing a string that I made myself - it's been a real learning curve, and is so rewarding, doing a few of these things myself. Cheers, Ben
