Now just to help out on a question that might come up. If someone doesn't have a Wifi computer/blackberry/cell w/internet. Is there a place in Crane where someone can email you, Like a library?

I'll have my iPhone as long as we have a signal I can email. it its a yahoo or hotmail you can use it.

I use a bow quiver. if you feel good with  a hip than go for it. I only take one bow. One day I'll regret it I am sure but not so far. Fingers crossed.

Oh, when I went to Michigan last year I shipped my bow. I missed it but it was there and safe. I got in the shooting groove pretty fast when I got up there.

I was there last year and I had my Blackberry with AT&T service which worked. It's a normal Texas highway to Crane but not much in town.

Dick,

I make one just like the "Sidestalker" from Three Rivers.  It doesn't require you to reach up and back, so if you have limitations on range of motion w/your arms it's no problem.  I'll bring one for you to use/try if you like.

hey dick i'm wondering about putting my bow in the mail as well (i am only bringing one by the way, i think)  I guess I'm leaning this way because on a short hunt i'd hate to miss a day.  It'd sure be convenient to bring it in the luggage though.  Anybody have ideas about the weather in crane this time of year?  This week looks warm and maybe some rain.  I'm also wondering if i can get by with just a tarp rather than a tent.  Also stoves, I'm not worried aout cooking food at night, but I gotta have coffee in the morning,  does anyone know if there will be one to use, or should i bring one.

lookin forward to it.

Dan

Guys, I have all the little details covered. You know, stove, coffee pot, refrigerator, shower, toilet, microwave, building to gather in, etc.....

I've now gotten all your deposits that I was expecting. Glad to have you guys aboard! We still have a few spots we could fill if anyone else wishes to come.

Shipping gear? This is totally a personal choice. I see about one guy in twenty that ends up at the ganch without any gear, bow, or clothes because of the Airlines reliability on delivering your luggage to the same place you go. I just suggest it because I never know who the 20th guy in line for nondelivery will be. Again, your choice.

Town is 13 miles. You can get all your lunch meats, breakfast food, beer, water, etc there. There are even restaurants there. No Wal Mart in Crane. You can get everything else there. Generally we eat a big meal before going out on the evening hunt. It cuts down on the late night cooking and dishes.

Cell phone reception is very limited on the new ranch. Almost non-existant! You can always drive a few miles and get it.

Quivers? Carry one that the arrows don't rattle in. Other than that we'll most likely be stand hunting. Most of the stands we build are pit blinds. You will need a three legged stool.

Tents? I'd advise a tent over a tarp. The wind always blows in west Texas. You'll arrive back to your tarp to find everything covered in sand.

Hope that helps.  :D   CK

There has suddenly been lots of rain across south and southwest Texas. I'd expect bugs and pack accordingly. I use a Thermocell. You cannot fly with a thermocell so you'd have to ship it ahead of time. Just thinking of the little details.

Please bring your remaining balance due on this hunt in cash. If you have questions about your balance please email me. Thanks! CK

I talked with the rancher on this ranch yesterday. The report is awesome for hogs and javelina!!! I'm fired up! Got my Snuffers ready for the javi's and my Sasquatch's ready for everything else. I leave in 8 days so all your gear needs to be here by next Friday. Remember to pack some arrows for shooting all the jack rabbits!  :readit:   Thanks! CK

CK,

Any info on what the average shot distance is?

Curtis told me 8 to 15 yards.  That's what I'm practicing at.

I generally won't shoot javi's unless they are 5-7 yards. They have a small kill zone and I'm not the best shot. Javi's don't bleed much even on a good hit. You want to guarantee yourself a solid vidal shot.

I shoot most hogs at around 10 yards myself. When using any kind of baits or scents with hogs I find that there is no reason to shoot long yardages or be impatient. I generally just wait till the target is within my "can't miss" distance. I also find that I learn a lot by simply sitting and watching the hogs as long as possible and still get the shot. CK

Sounds good, Curtis...   I got my packages off FedEx air this morning, so they should be there by Thursday.   I sure messed up my shipping opportunities... let the time get away from me and it cost!.  Now i know.

Going to a 3D this weekend and plan on telling everyone to just ignore the fact that I'll be taking all shots from close.  Daniel and I are flying out Tuesday... see you when we get there.
