Well as most of you guys know, I started volunteering and coaching our local 4H archery program this spring. Have worked hard all year with the kids, especially the recurve shooters, since no one was interested or knew much about them. The kids have done well in area and regional meets, this past Saturday they went to the KY state championship. Officials were very strict, one warning and out for any saftey violations, we couldnt even watch our kids shoot, due to too many parents making a butt out of themselves. The kids went in line, either did what they were supposed to do, and shot well or not, a little dissapointing from the coaches and parents end.Well, all my recurve shooters did well, most bringing home a trophy or two, but when it was all said and done, we found out our dinky little team had won 1st place and the Team Recurve State Championship! We had been real hard on the kids about obeying the rules, being saftey oriented, and it payed off, with them following the rules to a T. And afte talking to them, they were used to following the rules, so all they concentrated on was shooting well and having fun.One 11 year old girl, only one that shoots all the time, shot a 70 out of 75 possible, beating a lot of the older boys, she was stoked. Seeing the smiles on those kids face sure makes the work and hair pulling, if I had any left, worthwhile this year. A lot of you guys urged me on to do this, I appreciate your encouragement. I have taken a lot I have learned from you guys and did my best to pass it on, thanks again, just wanted to share. Sam Koger
