Hate to say it but I may like the longbow better
« on: September 27, 2009, 02:55:00 PM »
Ive always shot a recurve and never a longbow, always scared of hand placement etc.. but Mr. Toelke talked me into trying his whip classic and I love the thing. Its light, quiet and flings an arrow. Hand location was much easier than expected. I have a Toelke receurve in the same poundage and it seems to be flinging my recurve arrows quicker and flatter. Has anyone else switched after finding the RIGHT LONGBOW? I'm sure Ill shoot both

Well I have only been shooting traditional for two years now but I did start with a recurve. Then I tried a longbow. Now thats what I use the most. I still use the recurve and shoot it now and then but I love the longbows and how they shoot.

Shot recurves for a couple years, then picked up a longbow and haven't looked back, that was about 12 years ago.

I can shoot, and do shoot both.  I would never say that I would shoot just one and never the other.  Love em' both...especially my old classic recurves.

I have both recurve and longbow but, I shoot longbows better for some reason. I'm sure with practice I could shoot my recurves better than I do but, the longbow just comes natural for me. It was what I started out on.

I guess I'm in the same boat.  Started with recurves, tried longbows and they seem to be about all I shoot now.  :archer:

I shot recurves for 10 years; singing their praises the whole time and then on a whim bought a "D" shaped, classic handled, 64" longbow, and to my utter amazement it just captured me! I remember shooting a longbow when I first tried tradbows and actually shooting it better than a recurve. I was convinced however that in recurves lay the true genius. It's coming up on a year now since I last shot my recurve. Something just feels right about the longbow and currently I  feel no pull to shoot recurves again! Who knows though as to whether I won't as there is rarely rhyme or reason to my thinking when it comes to fun: After years of being a sworn loyalist of O/U shotguns, I just purchased a Browning "Maxus" autoloader and have already dropped a few geese with it. I've even been using it for sporting clays to the horror of many!       :biglaugh:      So "back in time" on one sport and "forward" on the other!         :D

My first trad bow was a recurve. Then I shot an Arkansas Stick and fell in love. Longbows ever since.

Used to shoot only recurves, and then got out of archery for several years. When I decided to get back into it, I became fascinated by the long bow. That was about 1990 or so, and I have been shooting the longbow regularly ever since.

I like them both...much rather carry a longbow cause of the wieght, but both are good .

I shoot both. My recurve during our club's indoor winter league and early Spring 3d shoots. During the Summer & Fall, I shoot my longbow. I use my longbow for hunting.

I've only ever shot recurves and still do but have to say, a friend (recurve guy) bought a Centaur longbow this summer and he loves it. We were both going to a party at a mutual friends house and he brought it with him for me to shoot. I shot it and have to say Wow it was very nice. I am now pondering a new horse in the stable.

I shot recurves but was bothered by limb shake.
Kinda heavy too. I started shooting longbows 20 years ago and like the narrow limbs and light weight.
