Alright.....so Oldskool told me to post his story since he is on the road today.
It is a nice brisk afternoon with a fairly consistent wind. Not too much, but just about right for hunting.
We decide to go hunt Delaware Wildlife area where there are some good oaks with HUGE acorns falling. We have seen plently of deer in this location over the last few weeks. Rob decides to go into the spot we have been hunting and I go across the road to some other oaks (turns out to be my mistake).
Where I'm hunting, there is quite a bit of mast on the ground from hickory and oak trees. I thought this would work out well with a pond just behind me. I'm not there 10 minutes when the squirrel brigade starts going crazy! I mean, I am covered up in squirrels. Immediately, I decide to take a shot at a big fox squirrel. Of course, I don't pick a spot and shoot right over him. Now the entire woods are filled up with the sound of barking squirrels. Oh well, it is still a beautiful day in the woods.
Meanwhile, on Rob's side of the road....
Rob is walking into the woods and sees the white flick of a tail so he immediately freezes. While standing there, more deer filter through, but no shot. After they pass, he continues through to his brush blind in the "good" oaks and sits down for the evening. After a short wait the deer filter back into the oaks. There are 8 of them total, a mixture of young bucks and does.
While the deer are feeding, both a doe and a 4 point buck offer up perfect broadside shots at the same time. Are you askng yourself, what would I do? Well here is some more info to help you decide.
The yearling doe is standing with her head behind a tree at 7-8 yards with her vitals WIDE OPEN!
So next time you see Rob, kick him in the shorts for me!
