trad mullet
« on: October 02, 2009, 04:21:00 AM »
a little while ago i went for a boat access only buff hunt to checkout what i thought might be a likely spot. anyhow turns out the place was burnt out. after returning to the boat i thought i might as well go bowfishing. i've been lure fishing before at one spot and found it to hold 100's of diamond scale mullet. so off i went in my trusty tinny.
as luck would have it the mullet were there and plenty of them too!

after a few misses (yep to high)  i thought i'd never get one but then i saw one holding in a snag. i used the minn kota to sneak in a bit closer, aimed lower than i thought i should and BAMMM!!
my 1st trad bowfishing kill.

here's the mullet spot X.

here's my 12' tinny that has served me so well.

in about an hour i ended up with 5 of them. i even got two in a row at one stage. great fun that's for sure, at least until i forgot to press the button on the zebco.
that's the 3rd arrow i've lost doing that. i think i'll sell the zebco and go back to a modified hand line.

oh, BTW they are damn fine eating!!

Congrats!  And, if you plan to do much bowfishing, invest in a Retriever Reel.  No more lost arrows because you forgot to hit the release button--will pay for itself before too long.

The title stumped me too. I was looking forward to seeing your new hair style Clint. "Business in the front, party in the back". Mullets are cool!

Now the fish I have never heard about...

I laughed hard at the Zebco button. Who hasn't done that? Great stuff. Stick any tree roots?

No offense Andy on your chosen cut. We are all just, old, married and jealous. We know a mullet on a young strapping lad as yourself really is a lady slayer.

Sorry to thread jack just had to apologize to Tradtusker.

I don't know about the fish, nice shooting by the way        but the "Mullet" is the most practical bowhunting hairstyle there is!  Ozy Clint if you want to do some more bowfishing the best setup you can get is the AMS system. Great Northern even makes a reel adapter for it so you don't have to put any holes in your bows riser.

When I saw the title of this thread the first thought that entered my mind was a picture of Joeseph cooking a pig.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

Right on Joseph,
Not everyone can rock a mullet like you.
I'd love to give it a go but never had the cajones (dangling participles).

otis- hell yeah we ate them! they are really good.

huntryx- it is the long riser (19") 58" AMO

andy- battery is there ready to go. that black box there has a 12V deep cycle in it that runs the electric outboard on the front. not so keen to do it at night. BIG crocs inhabit these waters!

straitera- nah, luckily.
