New To Me Schafer Silvertip
« on: October 06, 2009, 03:56:00 PM »
I went to The Archery Shop today to drop my deer cart off so Budro could use it at a special GMA hunt Thursday and Friday.  Much to my surprise, my new to me Schafer Silvetip had arrived.

The Silvertip is 64", 54#@30" (48#@28", my draw length) and the riser is Bocote with a White Phenolic/Black Phenolic/Bocote/Black Phenolic/White Phenolic straight accent and the grip is checkered.  The limbs are Zebrawood and has Elk Antler tips.  The riser and limbs, except for the accent stripe, are dyed to match and have a Matte finish.  The accent stripe has a gloss or semi-gloss finish and is not checkered.

The bow is a sweet shooting bow.  It is buttery smooth, ultra quiet and very fast, even shooting my 504 gr Grizzly Stik Sitka arrows and with a 1/8" rope of a string made out of Dacron.  Below are some pics of the bow:

The Silvertip is everything I've heard it to be!      :)

George,

No sir, I didn't win the lottery.  I just sold some other bows and when this one showed up in the classifieds it was the first Silvertip I've seen that was in my draw weight range.  Thank you sir, it is a purty one for sure!     :)

Ron,

No sir, this one won't be showing up in the classifieds.  My age is catching up with me and I have three bows now that I shoot very well.  So, I have no need to continue buying and selling.

Beautiful bow Mr Bill....I have 2 Tips, and I think they are one of the nicest, if not the nicest shooting recurves I have personally ever shot. The checkered grip is great in rain, or wearing a glove in the cold.

The one thing I would like different is to have a set of 62" limbs at 46-48#@28".  But I won't complain about the set I have.  They are really smooth and really fast!  If anyone has a set of 62" limbs at 46-48#@28" and would like to trade for my 64" limbs, maybe we could work out a trade.  :)

Joe,

I've lost count.  I'm somewhere around 100-120 over the past 8 years.  I would guess about 20 of them this year.    :scared:    ;)    :)

I didn't think the length of Schafer limbs varied.  I thought only the riser length varied and limb length was always the same.  ??

Paul,

I talked with Beth today.  There are two limb lengths and two riser lengths.  The short riser makes 58" and 60" bows with the short and long limbs.  The same limbs make 62" and 64" bows with the long riser.

Beautiful!  That length and weight would make it a keeper for years to come.

David,

Yes sir, then when I get to the point that I can't shoot it anymore I can pass it on to one of my grandsons.

Lamey,

The grip shape is very comfortable in the hand.  And the checkering is nothing short of spectacular.  I don't know who does Dave's checkering, but one thing is for sure, he/she surely knows what he/she's doing!

Awesome looking bow Bill, Glad you got it. I love mine. They have very good manners and are a true joy to shoot. I wish mine had the beautifully checkered grip like yours. I'm going to send it back to Dave one of these days to have it done.

I'll never let mine go.

Enjoy T.J.

T.J.,

Thanks!  I've said this many more times than I'd like to admit.  But this one has found a permanent home!  It and my new Marriah Thermal are fixtures in my bow collection.  I have one other hunting bow, a Crow Creek Black Feather and its place in my collection is not as secure as the Silvertip and Thermal now that I've received and shot the Silvertip.

I'm going to WV the last week of this month and I was planning on taking my Black Feather as a backup to my Thermal.  Now the Black Feather won't be making the trip AND the Thermal may be the backup!
